In the U.S., any idiot can buy an illegal gun from the trunk of a car in any ghetto for $50, because guns are amazingly plentiful. In most of Europe, such transactions still occur, but the cost will be $10k, basically weeding out 99% of casual thugs. Only serious organized crime and professional criminals have access to guns in Europe.

Baltimore could make gun ownership illegal, and it wouldn't matter, because Baltimore is surrounded by jurisdictions where gun ownership is largely unregulated, meaning there's a steady flow of cheap weaponry. But if there were national restrictions on handguns, fewer would get in the hands of thugs, because the costs (monetary and incarceration) would rise considerably. Your average two-bit thug would be carrying a knife, not a gun.
Even if you could repeal the 2nd amendment, there are over 320 million firearms in the US. Thugs will be carrying guns for a long time.

Well stats don't lie, just like the same FBI stats that you compare black crime to white crime.

They went by the stats and numbers and numbers don lie the last time I checked

of course and I will repeat this again

Black on black crime happens people get arrested and there is jail time and consequences. Also there have been protest and gatherings to stop black on black crime

NOW!

When the same people you pay and trust to protect and serve you are killing you, covering up the crime, and getting away with no consequences, that is a whole different matter

And this goes for all races even the white unarmed citizens that have been killed by cops

This doesn't have anything to do with the decline and fall of Baltimore.

Right. There's a different culture and reality on the ground that makes such simple comparisons between U.S. gun culture/crime and foreign gun culture and crime ridiculous. And, of course, NOLA101 fails to acknowledge the low crime rates in countries like Finland and Switzerland, where there is very high gun ownership rate and relatively lax gun laws.

All banning guns will do in this country is disarm law abiding citizens. But the OP doesn't even have to look to foreign nations for comparisons. States like Vermont, etc., have very lax gun laws and low crime rates. Cities like Houston with relatively lax gun laws have significantly lower crime rates than cities like Chicago. Things are not as simple as that poster tries to make things seem.

Seriously, though, NOLA101, without knowing seemingly, concludes that gun bans in cities like Baltimore don't make a difference in reducing crime. Why are they still on the books, especially when such strict laws are outliers?

LMAO so there are no gun-related crimes in Mexico, South America, Africa, the Middle East, Russia, etc?

I'll assume you meant "Europe" when you said "much of the world" (interesting bias point BTW) because they do have a much lower rate of crime with guns. But legally-owned guns are much more common in Europe than you seem to think. For example England, which uneducated people here seem to think has banned all guns, has over 1.8 million legally-owned and licensed guns in private hands as of 2010. Gun ownership in England and Wales: get the figures in your police force | News | The Guardian Here are worldwide statistics from 2007: http://www.smallarmssurvey.org/filea...nnexe-4-EN.pdf Look at the "Registered" column to see how many legally-owned guns are in each country. For example, look at Finland. 1.6 million registered guns in a population of 5.2 million people. Clearly, the mere presence or absence of guns does not correlate with overall murder or crime rates.

Fully-automatic AK-47s sell for ~$1500 on the black market in Europe, as reported here: Paris Killings Show Rise of Banned French I was unable to find black market prices for handguns in Europe but I bet it's much lower than for a machine gun. Please share your source for statistics that 99% of "casual thugs" can't afford any guns in Europe.

Oh really! Please tell me where gun ownership is "largely unregulated." I'll accept any jurisdiction that has fewer than 100 regulations regarding guns that apply within it. You should be able to list many, since Baltimore is apparently surrounded by them.

There are already many national restrictions on handguns, so I'll assume you meant "complete ban on handguns." Unfortunately there's this annoying thing called the Constitution which prevents that from happening. Pushing past that leads to this fly in your ointment:
