It's really sad that the "not to scale" legend is necessary.
What are you guys gloating about? Don't all European countries listed have materially lower obesity rate? If you want to congratulate ourselves on being only within 5-10% of the Europeans, go nuts.
On our visits to Florida 15 years ago.. I had never seen food on plates so big... I ordered French toast, and only french toast.. it came with sugar on top.. three slice of bacon , two eggs and sausage...but seriously it makes you wonder what exactly is put into all that fast food junk... Everything over there is mega size in food... saw one man tuck into a pile of pancakes covered in syrup for breakfast, unheard of here..although Scotland is known for its sweet tooth in food so we cant really talk.
in America, everytime i see the portion sizes when i cross the border, they blow me away. i can never come close to finishng mmy plate.
the servers always think i didnt enjoy my meal, when it's the simple fact they're serving me 2 meals. lol
lots of countries are having obesity problems but i havent seen portion problems like i have in the states.
It's true. I don't wish to jump on the stereotypical Americans eat too much...but yeah, the portions are generally huge, especially in chain restaurants. I eat part and have the rest boxed up to bring home. Biggest portions I've ever seen come from the Cheesecake Factory! Can get three or four meals out of one order from there.
I'm brand new here. I'm an American living in Ireland as such I've seen both sides. Maybe the europeans think American obesity is funnier than european. They're always making fun of American tourists; their obesity, clothing (matching shoes or jackets). I think there's a bit of envy in the fun-poking. Americans always seem to have a sense of themselves even when they're lost or in a strange place. People ain't much different, no matter where they live.
Plenty of fat ones there and they all smoke like chimneys. Ironically the American ciggies are their favorite.
Cigarettes are heavily taxed in Europe and as in America are banned in Bars, Restaurants and Public Places. In terms of drinking rates, Eastern Europe has the highest rates, as well as some Northern European Countries.
