The man in the video was defending himself. Regardless of what she said, she crossed the line when she swung at him twice and attempted to knee him. You can downplay this all you want, but it won't change anything. She assaulted him.
Like I said before, it seems like some folks in here are arguing just for the sake of it. The amount of strawman's and ad hominems proves me right.
Not accusing you of my last statement btw...

I've seen only 1 post that sort of supported a type of DV. Something like it's ok to hit a woman for 'discipline.' But you're right, the connection between this incident and DV is a stretch at best. I even agree that she assaulted him from the video I've seen.
When it comes to Johnson's punch being self-defense, you're sticking to a technical definition of what it can mean. For you, if somebody hits you, no matter how hard or how damaging or any other context, hitting them back with greater force is justifiable self defense. I don't agree with that. imo, sometimes hitting the person is simply retaliation, not self-defense.
My opinion isn't because of gender. No offense intended to women, but bar lady 'hit like a girl.' If a guy swung like she did, I'd feel the same way.
I'd bet anything that Johnson at the moment he threw that punch wasn't thinking that he had to protect himself from the woman. Far more likely, he was shocked that she was still attacking him, and whacked her from anger or annoyance.
