Wearing a mask, bullet proof vest and even being armed are not cause for being assaulted. If the protester the fired the gun feared for his life or any of his compatriots lives as a result of being assaulted his actions are justified.
I didn't say that, but it does warrant being questioned or confronted. And from there, we don't know what actually happened and what was said.

Maybe if this heckler would've showed up armed, with a bulletproof vest and a mask on, you would defend him. I won't hold my breath.

The gentlemen at the Trump rally disrupted the rally by screaming "Black lives Matter". There is no indication that the white guys said a word, they were just standing there filming. Now, if this gentleman would have shut up and filmed the Trump rally, probably no issues

Apparently, the MPD believes other things matter, since they have arrested two of the men involved in the shooting.
By your "logic", someone can sucker punch me on the sidewalk and I can take my gun out and shoot his friends in "self defense". Makes sense.

So why was the heckler at the Trump rally in Massachusetts just escorted out, and the heckler in Alabama assaulted and no arrests made?
Punches can be deadly force. If you are assaulted in that manner and have resonable cause to fear for your life YES lethal force is justified.
Arrests mean next to nothing. Police forces are the arm of the governing political body. Lets see how the court action goes.

It is certainly possible. At this point without videos it appears quite unlikely tho. BLM witnesses have already stated one of these guys was punched in the face. BLM witnesses did not claim that they were assaulted (at least until the shooting started).

And that very will could be the truth (then that person should be arrested and charged), or it could be the truth from their perspective and the witness may have missed an event leading to that.
Hopefully all the videos come out and then everyone in the wrong gets charged and ends up spending their Thanksgiving in jail.
