Exactly. And this is why Assad needs to be removed before ISIS can be defeated. They are two different, but aligned, cancers on the region.
The West is unwilling to deploy forces to ensure success. Rebels are fractured and divided by ideology and Assad is unwilling to leave power. Oust Assad and who takes over? The strongest forces in the region, likely Isis.
The only ISIS enemy than can win is Assad. Contributing to the power vacuum by attacking both ISIS and Assad only succeeds in strengthening ISIS. Attacking all rebels removes the power vacuum and makes it more difficult for ISIS to operate. Support for rebels is support for ISIS.
No, they aren't. Turkey has been fighting ISIS, Al Qaeda and the like. They are a member of NATO, and the sworn enemy of ISIS.

No, they haven't. They claim to be bombing ISIS in their state propaganda, but they are only there to protect Assad, who is allied with ISIS. That is why none of the western nations battling ISIS are working with Russia; Russia has totally different aims.
None of this is true. ISIS is nowhere near Damascus, and ISIS is working with Assad, not against him. They have carved out separate spheres of influence.

Wrong. The role of Turkey in supporting the terrorist groups has been well-documented. Their role in facilitiating the supply of weapons and terrorist militants was exposed in the Benghazi incident. The ambassador from Turkey was meeting with amb. Stevens on the very morning of the attack. This has all been covered many times. The Sy Hersh article in the New Yorker also exposed Turkey's role in the supply of Sarin gas to the rebels.
The Syrian government still controls much of the heavily populated Western part of the country. Much of the area in the East is desert and rural farmland. That has been vacated due in large part to the ethnic cleansing campaign by the CIA-backed rebels.
The Turkmen militias are coming from Turkey. They've been involved in clashes with the Kurds. Turkey is supporting the Turkmen militias as a proxy force to fight both the Assad government and the YPG.
You don't know what your're talking about. You're lying about ISIS working with Assad. The battle lines in Syria are quite clear. Ahrar Al-Sham, Nusra Front, FSA, ISIS, and others have territory where there are clear battles taking places against Syrian government forces. There are no battles between the rebel forces. There is movement of soldiers between the rebel groups, even movement of captives, such as the victims of the beheading videos.

I am sure behind the scenes, NATO is displeased with Turkey's actions during this conflict, but in public of course "we stand in unity". This particular issue presents new problems that possibly can come;
- Russia can start legitimizing and arming the Kurds, which of course would send Turkey into a rage, especially if given advanced AA weapons.
- The US and other coalition aircraft are in fact operating in Syrian airspace without permission, so the rules of engagement (lack of) have just been uncontrollably defined, which leaves US and coalition aircraft at risk, especially as/if Assad strengthens his hold over Syria.
- The fact the "free Syrian Army" admitted to shooting at the pilot while he was parachuting down just removed even more support and the foundation for Western talking points on supporting these "moderates".
No doubt the Russian plane violated Turkish airspace, to the extent it was worth shooting down is up to debate of course. Looking at the map and the history of that specific border; I do not believe there is any way "ten warnings" could have been made, and the longest the Russian plane could have been in Turkish airspace is what, 20 seconds? Plus the plane was shot down over Syria, everyone is acting like the plane was way deep in Turkish territory. Regards to the border, very unclear info, but seems this border area is not internationally recognized, taken by Turkey from Syria in 2005, but this is unclear, anyone have better info? I not have time to look too into it right now. But point is maps and pilot trajectories may not take this into account.
Anyway, I doubt much will come of it, hard for anyone to state Turkey had all rights to do it, yet turn around and violate Syrian airspace day after day. Russia cannot state too much because they indeed violated Turkish space, but determining where the plane was shot down would be a critical point. Also, Turkey harboring anti-Syrian/terrorist fighters is an act of aggression against Syria, in which NATO and all of its protections arguably does not apply, and I am sure is being debated behind closed doors.
I am surprised Turkey did this, I think this jsut shows the current regime is really off its rocker, just as many have been claiming, I doubt the previous regime would have ever done this, nor even supported the terrorists.
