"A Schofield middle schooler says he wet himself after his teacher told him he could not step out to use the restroom. Erik Orozcuās parents are just beside themselves that this happened to their son."
The teacher sounds as if she has no care for her student's wellbeing.
What's going on really is every incident everywhere is reported as news these days.
Practically speaking, this teacher should be made aware that there isn't enough time between classes to hit the restrooms and the students should be empowered enough to get up and go when nature calls BEFORE this type of thing happens.

By the time a kid reaches middle school, he should be potty trained.
The parents sound as if they're clueless and haven't instructed their kid on toilet techniques.
An old quote applies here:
"The wise man takes a leak whenever the opportunity presents itself. The fool waits until he has to go."
This little bit of wisdom should be required learning for all school age kids.

It's not that easy these days. When my son was in a wheelchair after knee surgery, he was late for the same two classes every day. One teacher let it slide. The other one made him go to the office for a late slip. This involved assistance from another student and finding a member of the custodial staff to operate the elevator. After a week of this nonsense, he finally pointed out that she was causing two students to miss half of class. She really didn't like that and threatened detention, a failing grade. She wouldn't have gotten away with it, but made that class miserable for him.
My eldest brother wet himself in elementary school because the teacher told him he couldn't use the bathroom. Mom told the rest of us that if we had to go, just leave the classroom and go. How many kids get that speech before the first day of school?
I do wonder if this boy had some sort of problem because I can't imagine anyone that age sitting in class and wetting himself.

My son had an urgency issue due to an immature bladder. For awhile, when he had to go, he had to go NOW. His brain didn't get the message that his bladder was full until it was almost too late. This persisted into the middle grades. Fortunately, it never caused him a problem at school or on the bus. But it isn't all that unusual, and accidents happen more than you may think.
This happens because the kids abuse the bathroom privilege and then everyone suffers because of it. My brother wet himself in elementary school because of this. His teacher was very apologetic afterwards. Some kids just use bathroom time as play time and that is why she told him no. I've been told by my kids that a few older kids will just pee on themselves to make a teacher look bad.
This happened to my son in Kindergarten. I had to take him to the doctor because it became a medical issue. I actually had to get a doctors note so that the teacher would let him go when needed. He had to miss two days of school as well. It was ridiculous on the teacher's part. My son wasn't the only one this happened to that year either.
