This was today's shock. Maybe just maybe WF's prices might come down a BIT....I like whole foods and shop at there often.. We have at least 4 stores in about a 10 mile radius of our town. And it would be great if Whole Foods starts delivery service and Trader Joe's too. I'm thinking of giving up my auto due to recent health set back and have been having delivery and friends shop for me.
My friend says WF's wasn't growing, staying even and even let some 1500 people go in the last couple yrs. Hopefully they won't employ robots...
I think this move was to help prop up Amazon's grocery delivery service which seemed to be floundering. Buying a grocery chain, they now have resources and storage for quick food delivery.

My Whole Foods started delivery a month or two ago.
I think this is to increase Amazon's foot print into the expanding grocery delivery business. The issue Amazon had is they had no physical location for staging like Walmart has, so this purchase now gives Amazon physical locations to expand its grocery delivery service, and it purchases an already in use supply chain.

Check if InstaCart is in your area. That is who is doing Whole Foods delivery in my area. They probably do offer delivery in your area. Are you signed up for emails and have the app on your phone? WF sent me an email a week ago for $15 off my first delivery purchase of $35 or more plus free delivery.
I have mixed feelings: if they can bring down Whole Food prices a bit, that might be a good thing. However, I give this about a year and I think WH will cease to exist. They were good when they started but now they are too expensive and other places (like Fresh Thyme) are really giving them a run for their money.
I am neutral with the situation. I can see Amazon having an imprint because there's no physical store and there's only an online site. But, it seems they are taking over whatever they could. I do know in a mall 40 minutes from me they put an Amazon kiosk that has Amazon products like Kindle, etc. Now Amazon bought Whole Foods (I am guessing something along the lines for their grocery department they have).
