But one thing I do not understand is why does the headline say "high school graduate"? Yes, she just graduated, but most people are high school graduates. It would be just as attention-grabbing to say "18-year-old shot in road rage incident".
Should the focus be on that one point in the story or isn't it really more important that the girl was died and the perpetrator has not been caught?
Yes, of course you are right, but why did you ignore the fact that I started the thread with "So tragic" and
the first sentence of my post was, "The murderer still has not been apprehended"?

These road rage incidents seem more and more common although that may be because of social media. Either way, I avoid road conflicts at all costs. Someone cutting me off or flipping me the bird does not cause me to get incredibly angry anymore. I chalk it up to major idiots on our roadways with no self discipline. I want to live to see another day.

THAT'S what you're focused on????
It says in the article that she just graduated from high school, probably wintin the past couple of weeks. In this culture, it's often considered a rite of passage into adulthood which makes her death more tragic.
But yes, let's focus on the nitty gritty details of the headline and not on the fact that a girl was shot dead in the head for trying to merge into a lane and the killer is still on the loose.
Road rage is something that I've learned to control with personal development work. There's no point in being upset in things you can't change. I do wish the traffic laws were different, and think a lot of road rage would be avoided if speed limits weren't set so low (and largely ignored by people in many areas I visit) by city councils and stoplights were better timed so people aren't sitting waiting for long periods when no traffic is around, or we could treat them like stop signs and simply go if it's safe, but that's no excuse to chase someone down for 50 miles because they cut you off, or whatever. Gotta play your cards better then that, but still, especially in men, this sort of violent instinct is wired into their DNA and it can be hard to shut off. That's why we put them in prison when we catch them. Hopefully they catch the guy.

OP, there's not always rhyme or reason to the headline choices editors make. Sometimes they just slap a heading onto an article to get that task done, and move on. Sometimes the headline doesn't even make sense; it contradicts the facts of the article. You're expecting too much from the journalism trade, haha. Sad, but true, sometimes.
It takes a real man to shoot a girl in the head from his car. They need to bring back the chair for cases like this.
