Thats what I thought when I heard they found the bodies in oil wells. I would bet he has put other victims in the wells over the years.
Who thinks to put bodies in oil to hide the odor unless you've thought about it before? This sounds like it was planned and premeditated, not done hastily with a spur of the moment idea of where to dispose of them.
And the wife wasn't in there because he needed her to be found to collect the life insurance. I don't think he ever intended the girls to be found. The cops would think Shanann was killed so some perv could have the daughters.
I'm absolutely dumbfounded that he confessed. One article said his father convinced him to turn himself in. I wonder if he told his father thinking Dad would help him, and his dad said turn yourself in or I will do it for you.
That is some hard core evil. Incomprehensible how a man could murder not only his wife, but two innocent young children. What's most troublesome to me when I hear about accounts like this is, did his wife never have an inkling as to the depravity of the man she was married too? That someone could be so evil and no one see it is scary. A sad story.

Everybody knows the next of kin are the first looked at and scrutinized. This guy must be a real genius to think he was going to get away with this one. He should get the death penalty or spend the rest of his life in jail. Scary how he thought people were believing his third rate acting job.

He does have hallmarks of a sociopath like Scott Peterson, Susan Smith, Pam Smart- and some people I personally know, and I'll bet all of us know at least one. Even if they don't go this far, there are plenty of them out there who get away with causing much damage with no remorse at all, and often have many enablers who will defend them or blame the victim.

Think about it this way:
If, at the initial meeting or first date, the narcissist/sociopath showed his or her true self, their dark and dangerous side, there would most likely never even be a date #2, let alone a marriage.
That's because deep down, they KNOW their impulses are wrong. In my personal experience, they are intelligent and perceptive enough to know how normal people in normal relationships act and they are able to simulate that behavior, at least long enough to get the other person to commit to the relationship.
Then, further down the line, as another poster here said, the "mask comes off". Sometimes in small doses, sometimes culminating in a horrific incident such as this one.

I just read that this is his defense. He should have gone for an insanity defense because he is CRAZY to think that anyone will buy that story. So that's why they wanted to check for DNA on the children's necks...to try to find his DNA and not the mothers.
