An Alabama woman is missing after stopping to help a toddler she saw walking on the interstate

A bizarre missing person's case in Alabama is gaining national attention. Police believe the woman may have been lured into a dangerous situation by a child.
An Alabama woman has gone missing after telling a 911 dispatcher that she saw a toddler walking alone on the side of an interstate, according to local police.
Russell told the dispatcher that she saw a toddler walking on the side of I-459 South. After calling 911, she stopped to check on the child and called a family member who lost contact with her, though the line remained open, according to the Facebook post.
When officers, who were already en route from the initial 911 call, arrived at the scene, they found Russell’s vehicle and some of her belongings, including her phone, but no sign of her or the child. Police have not received any reports or calls for a missing child, according to the Facebook post.
A single witness has reported possibly seeing gray vehicle with a light-complected male standing outside of Carlee's vehicle, but we have no further information on that individual or the vehicle at this time.
A massive search was ongoing involving local, state and federal agencies. A large group of volunteers organized by Russell's parents were also assisting in the search effort.
Wow. The fact that her family member heard her scream seems to indicate that she was abducted by someone with nefarious purposes in mind.
I hope they find her. And the toddler. The idea that this toddler is being raised by someone who would do this is the most disturbing part of this story.
Small city, after 9 PM.... Probably not many, if any...
No, not a small city at all! Very busy highway that goes through one of the nicest areas south of Birmingham. A trucker has provided a tip to police, not sure if any others have also.
I've traveled that highway many times since we have family near by. I also would've stopped if I saw a toddler walking. Sadly it seems that the toddler was bait. Hope they find this young woman.
Call it irrational, but I do not stop to help people on the middle of the road. I've seen too many true crime television shows of people getting setup. If someone is obviously in need of help, I'll note location and call the authorities while continuing on my way. A child in such a situation wouldn't change my calculus, especially as it would seem very strange.
Based on the statistics I read a while ago about the chances of finding an abducted person alive after a certain amount of time has passed, it doesn't look like this will end up well for the woman, but I'm hoping for a safe return.
With so many cars driving by surely there would be witnesses no?

This doesn't look good. Poor woman, trying to help a child.
I wouldn't think this was a trap. It's pretty iffy whether anyone would stop, and if so, that it would be a woman rather than a family or a trucker or man. Maybe a crime of opportunity. Then again, it is possible, I guess, it could've been a trap.
I'd guess the toddler was bait. Bad guy got lucky in that a lone female stopped instead of a big brute trucker or someone else they wouldn't be interested in.
That is actually a great getaway location, a quick drive to jump on 65 north or south or 20 east and west.
