Why the American fascination with the Royal family of another country? I find it a bit bizarre.
Is there a similar focus on the lives of eg the Spanish royals or the Danish royals?
I don't think it is any different from actor worship or rock star worship or sports figure worship.
That being said, I think the U.S. fascination with British royalty goes back to the fact that the original 13 colonies were British colonies, so there has been some kind of tie going back more than 250 years -- plus the British royals speak English and look like many Americans -- so that might be why we are more fascinated with the "Windsors" than we are with the royalty of some other countries.
Also, the British royal family, no matter how dysfunctional, has at least represented some kind of ongoing stability in the world.
European papers show photo of visit at farmers market this morning.
There was no photo. The media showed old photos of her at the same farmer's market, but the article says no one took a photo at their outing this weekend. Yet another PR blunder - as if we are to imagine that not a single person snapped a photo and sold it.
Seems like they were accurate in their assumption that folks would only look at the photo as a distraction, though. It's the same approach the RF took to saying that Kate merely edited her photo (evoking thoughts of editing away wrinkles) versus manipulating it.
How is it any of our business when and how she does what she does. She does not exist in order to meet the selfish demands of other people.
That's kind of the entire point of the existence of the monarchy in 2024. They're figureheads for whom the tradeoff of their paycheck and lifestyle is by serving the public and being the "face" of the country.

It’s all just a state financed soap opera. The Royals perform and the entitlements flow in. When the actors walk off the set the crowd boos and wants their money back.

There is a huge difference between celebrities and royalty. The former entertain the public and get rich, whereas the latter having inherited their wealth they enhance or embellish the image of their countries by working hand in glove with their governments.
A princess is not an actress in the eye of the taxman.
