Moderator cut: orphaned

How about representing diversity in terms of actual things to do?

Best place for Ethiopian food? Best karaoke bar w/locally-brewed pints? Best community theater exploring GLBT/political themes? Modern art galleries?

Free breadsticks at Olive Garden doesn't count.

The issue is that my idea of "stone's throw" is much shorter than yours, because pretty much anyone living in D/FW with an automobile has access to all of these things.

Back to the OP: When it comes to raising young'uns, in my opinion there isn't a substantial difference between 'burbs like Coppell, Southlake, Plano, Frisco, or McKinney. Proximity to the parents' workspace will be a greater factor than the size of the local movieplex or location of the nearest chain restaurant.

Also worth consideration: North Carrollton, HP/UP, Lakewood, the nicer parts of Richardson, and Colleyville/North Bedford. Grapevine is good for convenient lake access and a fun, family-friendly Main Street area. Let's not forget Fort Worth! Sundance, Bass Hall, the trails, zoo, and art galleries are all top notch... and the people are very friendly.

Diverse? No.
Lol...google plano and then 'best place to live,' 'healthiest place to live,' 'best place to raise children,' 'safest city,' etc.

Forbes, CNN, Men's Health, etc, etc, etc, all seem to disagree with your fine opinion.

Yes, because the statistics driving those national "best of" lists are always far more accurate than the opinions of those who have spent several decades living in every part of the metroplex.

Plano is a fine place for a safe, if unexceptional, car-based existence in the suburbs amid much sameness.

I think rational people here can agree that Southlake is the best place to raise kids.

As this beloved D Magazine cover can attest to.

Coppel, Plano, HP parents feel free to back me up here.

Hmm Big G I seem to remember that you like to dismiss the Newsweek and Washington Post lists of top high schools in the nation when Dallas schools are ranked above many suburban schools.
