My husband is considering applying for jobs in Dallas. I like our area right now, it has everything I want, and I am wondering if I could find a similar place in Dallas. I would like:

No more than a twenty minute commute to downtown.
Good elementary school
Close to a montessori preschool (I know, high maintenance)
Within a ten minute drive of a gold's gym
Within a ten minute drive of an indoor skating rink
Rent around 1K, or mortgage around 1200.

Anyone happen to know if this is at all possible? TIA

Going to be hard to tick all those boxes, especially depending on the number of bedrooms needed. 20 minutes to downtown would put you inside the "loop" more than likely, especially during rush hour. Wanting to be under 1K a month for rent, would put you in a terrible school.

You're probably going to need to bend a little, maybe on your commute times to downtown, to find something for 1K a month and good schools.

My question is, where will your husband be working? Not all jobs are downtown. A 20 minute commute might not help if he is working in Plano. The Dallas area is HUGE. Find the job, then look for the place to live.

Indoor skating rink ~ ice or roller? Ice, there are none that I'm aware of within the I635 loop. There is one at The Galleria, but I can't think of any other in Dallas itself, just the suburbs, which probably won't be within your radius from downtown. Roller rink? Only one that I know of within the I635 loop, in Lake Highlands.

Finding a good elementary school within 20 minutes of downtown will be difficult with your budget. There aren't very many, and they are in high rent areas. (Highland Park, Lakewood)

All of your requirements? Probably not possible.

What about a mortgage or rent around 1500? Would that help?

No more than a twenty minute commute to downtown. West side of 75 from IH-635 to Walnut Hill, commute will vary depending on traffic but should average 20 minutes or less
Good elementary school Preston Hollow EL should be good, Kramer & Richardson Schools should be ok, not bad but not great (others on here may be able to expand on this)
Close to a montessori preschool (I know, high maintenance) There is a Montessori school at Church Hill & Preston
Within a ten minute drive of a gold's gym Roughly 10 minutes to Preston Center Gold's (non-rush hour)
Within a ten minute drive of an indoor skating rink Roughly 10 minutes to one off Forest Westlake Skating Center (non-rush hour)
Rent around 1K, or mortgage around 1200. This may be the hardest to find and feel the most comfortable but there should be some within that price point in these areas...

Anyone happen to know if this is at all possible? TIA

And thirty minutes to downtown?

It's so weird to me that I can find all of this in Arlington VA (except our rent is 1700 for a 2 bedroom, so a little higher) but not in a low cost area like Dallas.

Google ice skating in Dallas area. Then look in that zip code.

Easy solution would be to stay in Arlington VA.

No worries. I believe the one I mentioned wasn't ice.

There's one up in Richardson called the Ice Training Center

522 Centennial Boulevard
Richardson, Texas 75081
