Naima
Wow, Naima, really $100K diff. That's why we didn't even consider Drees because for what we want they're about 50K above what we're looking to spend. Amazing. Maybe we should reconsider. Speaking of Billie Johnson and Kent Brown, who are these guys? Wondering after whom the streets are named. LOL

Just read your other thread, If you go with Highland or Drees you will be in good hands. Both are very reputable and have good quality control.

Some of the other stuff mentioned IMO is overkill.

They both welcome RE agents, if you can find a good buyers agent with knowledge of building it would be a plus.

Billie Johnson is Homer Johnson's wife. Homer is a Garland sports institution. Played FB @ GHS, coached at GHS, was the Athletic Dir. for GISD for decades. There's a shrine, I mean stadium, named after him in S. Garland. HBJ Stadium.

IIRC he and his wife owned some of that land.

Ahhh. Thanks Murphy! Did Homer ever play in the NFL? My husband said he thought that was the name of a former professional FB player...

Do you know who Kent Brown or Don Ashlock are/were? Seems strange to have a French-named development full of obviously American names. IJS

WAS! What do you mean "WAS". He still IS the Athletic Director for the Garland ISD. He is faithfully in attendance at all Garland HS football games. I've often wondered who will take his place when he is gone. I even figured the GISD might be the only district that has a person in that position that is post mortem. Speaking of, I need to head over to Williams Stadium to the ticket office and get my tickets for the game on Friday (forgot to get season tickets this year so my name is Mud).

Don't know if he ever did play for the NFL or not. For some reason I don't think so. Garland has a small Sports Hall of Fame that is located in the Inwood National Bank building on Main St. Pop in and check it out (free) and you will see many names that once you live here you will start to hear.

I'm trying to remember now who they were/are....... Heard the names a million times. I want to say Ashlock was a council member and may have been a mayor. Let me check real quick............ will be back but here are the ones I do know.

Bobby Boyd went to Garland HS and played on the football team when Homer coached, played for Oklahoma and in the NFL. He is in the Garland Sports Hall of Fame.

Wynne, I'm betting was named after THE Wynne family of Dallas and Garland. Very well known family and he started Flying Fish as well as many other restaurants and bars in Dallas.

Howard - Rick Howard served on the city council and the school board. He was on still sitting on the school board at the time of his death a few years ago. His wife taught in the GISD and she is a sweetheard of a lady. His son and wife live VERY close by. Daughter and her children live in Garland. My kids go to school w/ the grandkids. Other daughter teaches in the area.

Luna - Earl Luna has Luna Elementary School nearby named after him. He served on the school board as well. His two sons live in Garland in the area around there (Firewheel and The Greens). His daughter-in-law serves on the school board. My kids have gone to school with the grandkids as well.

Don Ashlocks brother, Ken is the pastor of New Liberty Baptist Church here in Garland.

Here is a good article on Homer B. and Bobby Boyd:

Around here all you have to say is "Homer" or Homer B." and EVERYONE knows who your talking about.

FYI, I have never heard of Drees coming down $100K or even $50K off the price of the list of their houses.

Btw, Homer will be celebrating his 82nd birthday in a few days.

And I find this kind of funny, he was born IN FRISCO! In 1927. Back then even Garland was WAY out there in the sticks.

Ha, I didn't think Homer was still working, I knew he had to be late 70's at least. But I think you are right about him having a post-mortem title.

Ashlock was the county constable for awhile.

I *heart* the Lunas. Good people. I worked with Scott thru a non-profit and got to meet his family at events. Lots of good works coming from that family.

Honestly I'm a little surprised that there isn't a Brownlee street. :-( Another family I think should be honored for their dedication.

Yep, saw Homer at the office today.

That's it........ I knew the name but could not place it. Ashlock that is.

The Luna's are super great. Very dedicated.

Hmm, wonder why no Brownlee too.

Forgot about Holden. Michael Holden was a city council member for this district. He has a few people in the area that don't care for him. Don't think we will see his name in the political arena in the city of Garland anymore.

I'm betting Todd was named for Todd Wynne. ???? Related to Shannon Wynne.

Clack, Chumley and Means Way. I've heard why they were named after these but don't recall. One owned some land in that area as well. Clack is just driving me nuts though as I know I've heard that name a bit.

We used to have a Pennie Clack that supported that agency too, that ran in that circle. Wonder if it's that family.
