duplex for low-income families in West Rehoboth: good idea or bad idea? (Lewes: low income)

Sussex County Council was supposed to vote on a project to build a duplex for two low-income families, but instead voted 3-2 to defer a decision to a future meeting. Apparently emotions are running high on both sides, so they want more time to consider the issue.

Those in favor say affordable housing is desperately needed in West Rehoboth while those opposed say the community should remain single-family homes.

So.... what do you guys think?

That would definitely be classified as high density multi family improvements, and in my opinion, not good for the area since zoning is primarily, single family. A "duplex" is one structure, on one parcel of land, but 2 units, attached to one another (multi family). Much different than "twins" which are also attached to one another, but each owns their own land (single family).

I'm glad you said that, because that was my reaction, too. Then I wondered if maybe I was being a snob. I get it that there are low income people who need affordable housing, but it just seems like it will bring more crime to the area. That neighborhood is already having a rough time, and I don't think this would help matters.

Multi-Family housing, in my opinion, is not the answer. But then, I don't know what is.

A police substation would be a better fit not free houses, most of the residents would benefit with a much needed jail term

Love rehoboth and it's wonderful shopes, want to buy on church street, but am afraid of the thugs and news reports, can anyone shed some light on the stats? Has things changed in past few years or are the news reports correct ?
