We are looking at a possibility to relocate to the denver area from florida. Escaping from the "tract housing" capital of the world, we want a place with at least an 2 acres (preferably more) in or near the mountains but easily accessable to Englewood via 285. I want to stay within 20 minute commute time to to 285/470 junction (I already know my commute time from the junction to the office in englewood)
What we are looking for is open space and a bit of nature with the ability to have rural type pets. Dont want homeowners associations and heavy deed restrictions. Older houses are fine, as they can be easily renovated. We also dont want to be down in the prairie like in castlerock. Schools are not important, as my child is only 3 and will be homeschooled.
Ideally, we'd like to be in the 400k price range but could go to 600k if needed.

Is morrison a good area where I could find this type of housing, or what other communities are available within easy commute. Golden is great, but the commute is too far.

Thanks

Conifer, Pine, Morrison, Kittridge would be ok. Bailey would be a stretch.

What is Morrison like? I see in the new homes guide they have some new homes going in there. How long would it take to drive from Morrison to 80125 zip code area of Littleton?

I was in Morrison and it seemed reallly nice. Kitteridge and Evergreen are right down the road.

I did hear something disturbing from a veternarian who studies this stuff- that the water had high levels of radioactive materials and that the cancer rate was higher than normal. I never researched this so I dont know.

Depending on where in Morrison 15 to 30 minutes to Lockheed Martin, and also which campus one is accessed by Kipling & the other on Wadsworth.

In your mind, what does your new place have? and what don't you want?

I want to live in a neighborhood community where people are friendly to oneanother, where you know your neighbors and they know you, where children can play safely outside in yards that aren't too sandwiched together and the commute to work is within 30 minutes during rush hour. So I guess, until the job is finalized, I have to wait to specify an area. Sometimes, I think the best advice has been to rent for 6 mos and really study the area before buying, but that means moving again and with kids that can be hard. So that is why I read everyone's ever so helpful posts to learn as much as I can about each area, so that just maybe when the job situation is a done deal we are ready to buy and settle in an area. I do want to say that this Colorado forum is one of the nicest forums there is. Everyone is so welcoming and willing to share their beautiful state with others. Thank you all so much!

I'd look at Douglas County, Castle Rock (The Meadows) or Highlands Ranch for the community & the better school district. Jeffco is a good school district, 3rd in the area. South Jeffco (often called Littleton) would be an easy commute 0-35 year old homes. Morrison, the city, is small town & home to Red Rocks Ampetheatre...as close to a mountain town as you'd get so close to the big city. If you want mountain living, try Conifer or Deer Creek. Like large lots and nice views Sedalia, lots of back roads, and one of the best biker bars in the area off Sante Fe.

When you come, will you bring crabs? Mike & I just might meet you at the state line

The Morrison Inn has great Mexican food.
Red Rocks is one of the best places in the world (no exaggeration) for concerts.
