Hi all,

I will be moving to Denver in about a month to work at a company in the downtown area. I'm in the mid-20's, single male, and into music and arts, fitness, and socializing. I don't imagine myself spending much time at home since I'll be working long hours and having fun outside. But I also want a place that can tolerate music being played (I make music sometimes). In fact, since college graduation I have always lived with roommates, and never felt quite comfortable with making music. So what I think I should be looking for is a decent studio apartment in a young, happening neighborhood that's not too far from downtown. My salary is about 70k, and I'd like to spend around 1k on rent per month.

Any suggestions will be welcome and most appreciated!

Why do you think LoDo is worth spending north of 1k to live in?

I agree about spending more and living in LODO. I live on 16th and Larimer which is perfect location for me. 1 bedroom for 1350 which is just a steal. I have seen 1 bedroom condos go for 2k a month. Try finding a deal like that in the area.

The easiest way to answer this question in my opinion is that rental rates are market driven. People wouldn't pay what they are paying if it wasn't worth it to live there.

From what you described, Lodo is the best place in Denver for you. You will love Lodo. It's worth it to pay a little extra and be happier.

I have this conversation all the time with regards to Wash Park prices. If it didn't kick so much Ass, it wouldn't cost what it does.

Getting into a house is just as hard as getting a rental. Colorado apartment vacancies outside Denver at lowest level in 11 years - Denver Business Journal

Wow LoDo is expensive! I live in a city with 10% higher COL now and I spend around $800 on rent, utilities and telecom included. Here's the real question though: What does LoDo offer that more affordable neighborhoods don't? I mean, we are talking about the difference between 1.5k/month and 1k/month here....

Well, there's a lot of college aged or just above college aged "Craig and Ashleigh" types running around, and they generally won't care about noise from music being made. There's also a lot of overpriced and kind of obnoxious bars/clubs and a couple of concert venues (Paramount Theater and Summit Music Hall being the biggest).

That being said, I dunno if I'd recommend that over something in Cap Hill (more in your budget, slightly less "Craig and Ashleigh," still a short walk/bike/bus ride to downtown, can often rent a parking spot if you have a car), Uptown (same as Cap Hill, plus you're a short walk/bus ride away from the Ogden/Fillmore/Bluebird theaters to go to concerts) or Baker (below budget, very hipster, still a short bike or bus ride downtown, local live music at the bars almost every night).

If you CAN find something in LoDo for close to your budget, go for it, but there's a lot of other just-as-good-if-not-better alternatives.

Paramount Theater is right in the middle of downtown at 16th and Glenarm, which is not LoDo.
