Agreed, I would consider Ken Caryl foothills living as well, along with Morrison and perhaps Genesee. I make the distinction that places like Evergreen and Conifer are not foothills living at all, but full-on mountain living. Newcomers should keep this mind because it doesn't look like much on the map, but it will on your driveway in January.

Yes it's possible. Only with bad weather (accidents/idiots) will it take longer

Thanks for all the replies, everybody!

Definitely very good info that I'll have to consider. My heart is really set on Evergreen, because after living in Silicon Valley for many years and lately growing to dislike it out here, it's always where I wanted to end up when I moved back to Denver.

Also, there's always the possibility of once I've been there a few months and proven myself, I could work remotely some days, or at least dial into the daily meetings and come in later (and work later).

Thanks!

Forgot to mention...

I've done similar commutes in the past. In the mid 90's, I used to live in Teller County, and drive down highway 24 each day to work for a company along Garden of the Gods Rd in Colorado Springs.

That was about a 35 mile commute also, and while traffic wasn't as bad as in a bigger city, I enjoyed living in Teller County so much I was willing to put up with it.

I mentioned that just to give some more context about where my head's at with respect to living somewhere I enjoy versus the commute.

Thanks!

^^Sounds like you really want to do the commute, so I'll say go for it. This is not normally what I would recommend; I feel the suggestion of Morrison is a far better idea. Maybe try renting in Evergreen for a while.

With all due respect, it's no longer the 1990s. The population esp. in the Denver metro has exploded since then. You are looking at a population closing in on 2 million people in the area you are talking about vs. probably closer to 1/4th of that in the area you lived in and commuted in back then.

I second Katarina's suggestion to rent for a while - particularly over the winter - and see if life in Evergreen is really going to be worth the commute you'd be taking on.

I have sold 8 houses to buyers in Evergreen over the last 6 years. 5 were Denver commuters. One moved to Conifer. All the rest moved down the hill within two years. Three moved to Morrison. One moved to Roxborough.

There are better ways to spend your life than commuting.

Rule of thumb, you never want to commute through a city when there are better options.

Not sure what you're talking about. This house would be around $2M in my neighborhood. It's $689K in Roxborough Park.

Check out this setting for $750K

This thread is very interesting to me (I don't mean to hijack) as I am considering the same thing. I lived in Lone Tree 2003 - 2007, but found myself in Evergreen, among other mountain locations on weekends with my Jeep.

I am considering moving back after a recent divorce, and would probably require a commute to downtown, or DTC depending on job. Can reasonable apartments be had in, and around Morrison? Considering that after what I have read here. I have to research Ken Caryl as I don't know as much about it. Thanks!
