Hi! My family and I just moved to Aurora from near Syracuse, NY. we were very active in our small community and this seems like a giant leap right now. Any advice on job hunting, apartments, neighborhoods, rec centers/ programs? anything really to make life a bit easier??

Thanks

Aurora is huge. HUGE!!! Denver has a really good rec center system, with 29 locations. If you could manage to move into Denver, it is ridiculously affordable for residents. I think Aurora has a couple of locations, but I don't know much about it.

Use of the Denver Rec Centers is ridiculously cheap! Note that it is only a little bit more for non-residents and in fact the non-resident fee is quite cheaper than for the resident fee in Aurora (based on annual pass -
$150/adult Denver resident, $200/adult non-Denver resident).

Welcome! I'm originally from West Monroe, 30 min north of Syracuse. We first moved here and rented in Aurora. It was a bit too big for me right off so we ended up buying a house in Parker in Rowley Downs backing up to a greenbelt. It reminded me of home but not too much. No wet cold to the bone cold during winter (yay), lots of sunshine...no more gray winters (yay) and lots of things for kids to do. You can sign up for sports at any rec center. Aurora has a lot of team sports for kids. We did soccer there. We also did soccer and volleyball through South Suburban. We also did a couple of art classes there too. A MOPS group helped me find doctor, preschool etc since my street didn't have young children like mine. There are so many people here from so many different areas that are usually willing to help you find something or figure something out. Good luck!
