so. trying to make this move cross country, my husband & myself, & finding there is little in way of rentals in wyandotte? at least what i can find advertised online. a friend in the area says there are signs posted throughout the neighborhood so thought i'd at least try this route since i'm not there in person to scope the place out. having said that, if i am able to find enough places to check out, husband & i can take trip to the area prior to move to make decision....but we don't want to take the trip if there won't be much to look at once we get there (if that makes sense )

looking for at least one bedroom, two would be awesome
MAX we're looking at right now is $600/mo
flexible lease terms would be lovely
flat preferred over apt living, but either acceptable
WE WOULD LOVE TO BE AS CLOSE TO DOWNTOWN AS POSSIBLE!!
washer/dryer highly preferred
a yard or even just patio/balcony desired
*safe area a MUST*

we'd like to move end of april, end of may at absolute latest!

I see rental signs in various places. IMO The best place to live is on the water side of Jefferson near or in downtown if you can find something. That will also be the most expensive.

Our realtor in Grosse Ile, knows Wyandotte pretty well. I am not sure if she can help you with aparments, but maybe. Call Carol Bollo realty and ask for Bonnie. They have offices all over downriver, they probably have one in Wyandotte. There are a lot of rentals in Wyandotte. Some of them are very nice. If you do nto need to worry about schools, Wyandotte is a terrific place.

If you cannot fnid something in Wyandotte downtown, you may as well look in Trenton as well. It is only about a mile or two from Trenton to Wyandotte. You could end up a mile or two from downtwon Wyandotte anyway. Woodhaven or Riverview are right there as well.

Any of the tree named streets (they run east and west)from 1st through 6th streets (numbers run north and south)...North of Eureka and South of Walnut? That will be the area closest to downtown. For $600 a month it's all "safe." Though I am not sure $600 can be done? A few years back when I was at Oak and 3rd, the duplex was $450...

$480 - 2 bedroom
Spacious 2 Bedroom Apt (http://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/apa/2205154876.html - broken link)

$475 - Square feet looks decent
Next to Mt. Carmel Church (http://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/apa/2268422934.html - broken link)

Either of those guys probably have other properties or could help you out. Good luck!

In general the Trenton side is nicer and safer than the Ecorse side. Ecorse is icky and it couches River Rouge which is ickier. Then you get into Del Rey (Detroit) which would probably be worse if there was anyone there. None of it is horrible. It is not like people are waiting ont he corners to drag you out of you car and mug you if you stop. I drive through there all the time, but I would not choose to live in Ecorse.

When you are on Biddle, the homes are nicer, traffic hs constant and that somehwat creates safety (bad guys do not want to be seen). As you move inland on the North side of Wyandotte, it tends to get worse.

Frankly, as soon as you cross the bridge and enter Wyandotte, things are instantly nicer. The homeson the water side are beautiful right up to the Ecorse line. Is it safer to be the fifth house from Ecorse than the first or second? It does not seem likely. If you are worried about staying well away from Ecorse, stay on the other side of the Henry Ford Hospital. Once you get north of HF you are getting a bit distant from downtown anyway.

I may be wrong about North or south, I do not have a compass in my car. The direction I am calling North is upriver, south means downriver. The river twists and turns so it may not really be north and south in that location. I do not know.

On Biddle itself? There are nice homes all the way up to the Ecorse border that are on Biddle. West of Biddle? Personally I would want to stay south of Superior or Ford Ave...
