And during all this time, the only change you've actually made is walking more - and you've already lost a couple of inches around your waist.

Imagine how much progress you -could've- made, if instead of wondering what kind of fast to do, you had simply changed your portion sizes (to somewhat smaller) and increased your exercise by another half hour a week.
I hope you meant that to be supportive and encouraging. But the phrasing comes off as critical and mean.

Making ANY change is a positive. So for you to say "during all this time, the only change you've actually made is walking more" ...you are you to criticize like that.

And as for: "Imagine how much progress you -could've- made, if instead of wondering what kind of fast to do, you had simply changed your portion sizes (to somewhat smaller) and increased your exercise by another half hour a week"....imagine how much more positive and supportive YOU could be if you had made you suggestions without comments that could be read as meanspirited.

Gigimac, I wish you success in your weight loss efforts whatever they are.

I fast often for days at a time and find it helpful. It took me over a year to prepare mentally and emotional for it. Good luck to you.

I was intending to be critical. I was critical when he started the thread a month ago asking about fasting. I told him then it was a dumb idea, and several of us told him it was a dumb idea. However, we didn't -just- tell him it was a dumb idea, we gave suggestions on what to do instead.

He didn't follow any of our advice. He ignored all the advice he was given, and instead, chose to - walk a little. He's seen a little progress. Not impressive. If he had taken even -half- the advice he had been given, when he asked for it, he would have made a lot of progress.

You should never fast for any period of time (unless your religious beliefs require it). It is not good for your body to go without food for long periods of time and the end result will be double the amount of weight you initially lost gained back very quickly and your metabolism will be slowed tremendously.

Follow a good solid real food plan will a bit of exercise and plan on a "Life Long Life Style Change"; you will then lose weight safely, be healthier and have better eating habits.

And you can't find a way to be more supportive without being critical?

He's on a public forum so I guess he has to expect all kinds of responsive. Whether online or out in public I'm saddened when I see and here people who choose to be unnecessarily harsh, when they could be supportive and encouraging instead.

Words can tear down a person, or build them up....
Bit that's my issue.....thinking people shouldn't be strident and mean when they don't have to be.
