I just kinda wanted to get another thread going about not so much the good, bad, and ugly of fasting; but rather I'd like to gather some folks who are interested in doing this. It helps to have others who are doing a fast at the same time. Now, I have read a lot of stuff over the years about fasts, how to slowly go into one and also slowly go out of one, so you don't shock your system; also how important it is to get a doc's approval to make sure you won't have a heart attack in the middle of one, in other words you gotta be healthy; and how a person needs to not overdo whilst on a fast. So, if anyone wants to do one, you MUST read about it first.
Now, I also wanted to indeed ask of other fasters or those who know about this, if there is any reason why I cannot exercise while fasting is going on?? You see, with just fasting, they say I can lose perhaps 20 pounds in the first week. I plan to do a two-week fast. And so, I thought if I exercised at the same time, I might can raise the pounds I lose. But I don't want to do that if it's really out of the question, so I'd like some feedback on that.
Lastly, as in all things on this website, it is not a good idea to follow what ANYONE says in the way of advice, or ideas, or taking on any project that might be dangerous or create more problems than necessary or might be contrary to what a professional might have to say about it. But I WOULD indeed like to see can I get a dialog going on anyone who might want to join me on this thing. My plan is not to do this right away, rather I want to wait about three weeks. And as I said, I wanted to do a one- or two-week fast (10 days perhaps). I'm just starting to think about this, so I wanted to create a thread to get things rolling, perhaps. GG
Intentionally starve myself for the express purpose of losing 20 pounds in two weeks, that took me two years to gain? Resulting in stressing my organs, making my hormones go crazy, potentially damaging my heart and kidneys...
Or..
or...
reduce my carb intake, increase my protein intake, include more vegetables and nuts in my daily menu, and do some serious stomach-crunching and cardio, maybe dance a few times a week..and lose that 20 pounds in 2 months, while enjoying meals and moving my butt and possibly feeling GREAT at the end of each day, and waking up feeling GREAT the next morning?
Let's see. Which should I do.
I'm thinking..I'm not starving myself. That would be a really stupid thing to do.
Gig I realize you want only support for your fast, but anyone who knows anything about diet and nutrition will tell you this is a very bad idea. Very bad.
OP, I'm all about intermittent fasting but 2 weeks seems excessive to me. Here is my question: what is the longest period of time that you have fasted in the past? If the answer is never or never more than days then I would ask you to wait and try IF first to see how your body will handle it. That's where you skip breakfast and lunch then eat a big dinner, either every day or every other day. Other people just go completely w/o eating for about 2 days of the week and if you do that you can exercise towards the end of your fast and then break it with a good protein dinner. After a month or 2 you could try a 3 day fast to see how you handle that but you probably shouldn't do exercise more than walking for that. 2 weeks though? I just don't think that's wise, esp if it's just for weight loss. But if you must, it will probably take at least 6 months of IF to get ready for it and then you shouldn't have any big plans for that time.
Oh my - TOTALLY EXCESSIVE. A couple days of fasting will do no harm, I have done it myself - but you definitely do NOT want to exercise or do anything strenuous while fasting. Very experienced athletes who are in great shape and can do some exercise while fasting, but NOT on a long-term fast.
Please just try intermittent fasting as first - skip a meal here and there, or fast for a day and see how you feel. You do not want to put yourself in the hospital!

I'd like to do this too, but I'm not sure where to begin. It is not so much for weight loss as to detoxify. I don't believe a properly done fast "stresses the body" or anything of the sort.
Fasts are as an ancient practice, and I think that they give the body a chance rest, restore and detoxify. I think juice fasts are good.

Juice fasts are GREAT! I think the main thing is people need to start out slowly - do one or two days, and work up to longer fasts. Plus, it is important that there are no medical issues. Some may need a doctor's supervision.
A while back my husband and I had GREAT success doing a short juice fast one day per week. We would lose about 3 pounds each time and it would STAY OFF. Plus, we felt GREAT. I have diabetes now, and takes meds, which makes it harder for me to fast a whole day. But I do intermittent fasting now, usually skipping one meal per day.
I am looking at doing a cleansing fast to loose a few pounds and get rid of some toxins. I would like to do it for a week if I can. Any suggestions on that?

I am too. Anyone? Perhaps we could have a little Fasting Club here.
