I'm a mutt person. I am drawn first to mutts with border collie-type coloring or mixes, since the dog I grew up with looked like that. But I've branched out with each mutt or other kind of dog I've come to know. I now notice mutts that are sort of Corgi, Aussie, cattle dog (big time). I thought my adoptee Artie was boring looking "all white" and now wouldn't trade him for anything, plus, I now notice his brindle face and patches.
Brittany/Springer mutts also tap into dogs I've known in the past.
I think each time I take a dog, his/her "type" of mix becomes more my taste than before, although the above-mentioned ones have a head start.
I might have put sheltie or beagle before Gumby. I've had both and love both breeds. I'd love another sheltie. But the two Gumbys showed its not the breed, its the individual.
Little gumby was maybe eight inches high. Long legs, terrier mix as they say. But his coloration was more like an australian shepard. He lived to 17 and a half, and was slower at the end but never lost it. But he was a delightful little dog and when I got Big Gumby as a puppy I saw the resembelence immediately, though as a pup he was about the size of Little Gumby all grown up. Yesterday I found him on his lead having jumped over the four foot fence (saving up to get the last of what we need for the 6 ft one) which is why he's outside on a lead or not outside. Mom was terrier. Dad????
He's got a shepard or similar dog head, and the front of the body is more heavy as he'd gotten closer to two. the feet are big but the legs are looooonnnnggg. I'm 5'4" and walk him by attaching a strap to his harness, not a leash. The back end is very greyhound like. Aside from young dog jumpyness, he has a wonderful personality and isn't overly agressive. But he knows his yard is his and the neighbors like the barking since he only barks at strangers. (the beagle barks at leaves blowing). He'd got a curly tail, but otherwise he's like a supersized version of little Gumby with as wonderful a personality.
If a neighbor hadn't had the puppies out and I hadn't looked at them that day and just fallen for him, I'd never know that a 'mutt' who would be big and 'scary' according to some would be so beloved. I used to be scared of big dogs on principal, but have reconsidered. I refer to the what is that dog dog as a 'gumby'.
My favorite dog was a Bichon Frise. They are very docile and cute. They are great with kids and I love their color (white). I had one and she was a doll. Will never be forgotten. RIP!
Australian sheep dogs are the best, fast, smart and cunning.

One day at work a customer comes in and has an Australian Shepherd in the car. It is Christmas, so I invite the dog in and take it to the back, we have a storage room behind the front office. I open my big can of Danish Butter cookies, and present three cookies to the dog. Male bonding at its best.
Four months later: the same customer is coming, the guy opens the office door, the dog runs past him, runs past me, runs past all the computers and printers, goes to the storage room and sits down like a dropped rock in front of the filing cabinet where the Danish Butter cookies are stored.
I laughed so hard I wet my pants. Needless to say, I gave him five more.
I could never keep an Australian Shepherd. Any dog way smarter than me has no place in our home.

My one & only mutt is a mix of GSD & doberman...
(hope he is all happi in doggie heaven).
My new fav. dog that is not mine but hubby is a Great Pyr.
Very well behaved really.
House breaking is a breeze & walks by us all the time when off leash.
I voted Great Dane, because my favorite dog from my youth was one. It's just not practical for me to have one now. Since then I had several labs and a maltese. The labs are a close second favorite. After a 10 year hiatus from having any dogs (I hate that they grow old and die!) I recently rescued a husky. I'm still getting used to his husky personality. He's an awesome dog, but we have a little way to go before I would call it my favorite breed.
