And so begins a life of being passed around, quite possibly on her way to being killed in a shelter. *Sigh*

I'm very sorry to hear about the poor pup but hope that she managed to be one of the lucky ones and got a permanent, loving home with someone. Thank you for caring about him.

And those poor kids who learned such a terrible lesson about what it means to have a dog.

I think you are all jumping to conclusions without knowing any of the facts. The OP has absolutely no clue what the conditions are in which this dog lives. The OP has only overheard bits and pieces of conversation, and is too afraid to ask for clarification.

As far as cold is concerned, my dogs have access to my backyard anytime they want. Or they can come into the house anytime they want. Even when it is -25°F outside my Alaskan Husky will voluntarily stay outside for hours at a time. Cold is relative, and it depends on the dog.

"The op" is not afraid to ask anything. "The op" was getting ready to offer to take the dog, but the people never showed up again. The trainer told us they were going to rehome the dog. What "the op" did know is that this dog lived 24/7 chained out in the backyard and 'had a barking problem.' That (and the family's unwillingness to housebreak the dog and the fact they were putting a shock collar on it) was enough information for both "the op" and the trainer to put together that this family was not a great fit for a large puppy.

Do you always refer to yourself in the third person? OP = Original Poster

By your own admission you didn't speak with her about her dog because it was none of your business. So when you post things like:

Quote:
Turns out that she has spent her entire puppyhood chained in the backyard.
It is pure speculation on your part. You don't know where she lives, or how she treats her dog. You overheard a few fragments of conversation and instantly jumped to conclusions.

Without knowing where she lived, how exactly did you know this?

Please tell me that you don't serve on a jury. With the way you jump to unsubstantiated conclusions you're liable to convict the innocent more often than the guilty.

I didn't have to TALK to her about it. She said so. She said to all of us, "She stays outside on a chain" and "What can I do about her barking all day long?"

I hope you are never on a jury b/c understanding basic English seems to be a problem.
