I was just wondering what other people see when they look at my dog. When folks ask, I tell them she is a shepherd/lab mix, but I really have no idea. I curious what all of you dog lovers on CD see in her. I included some of her puppy photos too. When she was a pup she went from floppy ears to pointy ears and back to floppy. Now, at age 3, her ears pretty much always flop but sometimes they stand up partway. She wieghs about 60lbs now.
We live in WY, and we adopted her from a rescue in Billings MT. She was found on a Native American reservation. There was a litter of puppies found under a building, and Riley was the only one they were able to catch because the others were all very wild and fearful. I spotted her on Petfinder.com, and it was love at first sight. She was 2 months old when we brought her home.
Great photos of a happy pooch - would say possibly she has some golden retr. in her, hard to tell though, it could also be yellow lab, if her sire was a german shep., that could account for the longish fur, heck maybe she has all 3 in her, LOL.
It looks like there are a bunch of breeds in there (remember, it doesn't necessarily have to be only two breeds on her DNA, especially if her mother and father were both mixes as well).
I see some border collie and yellow lab in her as well as some shepherd (her puppy legs look a lot like my GSD's legs when she was a pup). But given your location and her origin, I would not rule out some coyote as well (which would explain her littermates' behavior). I actually think she is a coy dog, perhaps shepherd/lab/collie/coy or shepherd/lab/coy.
Whatever she is, she is absolutely gorgeous--that picture of her poised in the snow is very striking. Thanks for sharing!
That's funny Starla, we've often thought that she may have some coyote in her, and I even researched the coyote breeding cycle (it differs from dog's) and the month she was born would make it possible for her to be part coyote. So who knows, maybe it's so. Thanks everyone for the input & comments so far, keep 'em comming
Maybe instead of lab or golden retriever she has some Chinook in her? Chinooks are a type of sled dog. I think you would probably find the breed up in that area.
i think shepherd x lab is a pretty safe bet......and she is one pretty girl...... and my goodness.... look how her face changed from puppy to grown up girl between the 4 month and 6 month old pictures........
Shepherd and Golden Ret are what we see. She's a good looking dog that is obviously well loved.
