I am not a big fan of government. (Government at all levels.) I won't even live in a housing tract that has a homeowner's association because they have too many rules to follow...I moved to Az to have more freedoms. (I grew up in So CA.) A little after I moved here everything changed. Arizona decided to pattern itself after CA! Now we have more laws and city codes and regulations!...So I am not in love with government at all....But I don't want to follow the first or second "pied piper" who comes along either. I don't want to jump into things without looking at a "big wide picture" first. I don't trust any politician. I feel they are in it for themselves....I'm old now. (62) I've been through many election cycles during my life and I don't view anyone as the "messiah" anymore....Ron Paul has had a "cult following" for many years. I'm a sociology buff and it intrigues me. But I don't feel the same way about him that his followers do. I see him in an entirely different light. And I do feel that he has become more gruff and callous lately. He doesn't always have a very good "bedside manner" for a doctor. Anyway time to stop and watch the debate!

Kudos to Ron Paul! He's doing well in the debate tonight. He deserves some credit! I'm not saying I'll vote for him. But he is doing well tonight. And he doesn't seem quite so grumpy or callous.

Speaking of bedside manners, how did you like Perry's and Romney's in tonight's debate?

Romney is a "strange bird" but I thought he handled the attacks on him pretty well most of the time. YUK! I don't like Perry at all. Santorum was a bully at times tonight too...I think Ron Paul conducted himself really well. And I do agree with him on many points....Cain's "apples and oranges" became a bit weird. What do you think? It is sad that Ron Paul gets ignored by the "talking heads."

P/S: I still don't agree with all of Ron Paul's ideas. But I do agree with him when it comes to shutting down our bases around the world and bringing our military back home. But of course we need jobs for those who decide to leave the military when all the soldiers come home in groves.

I don't buy into the fact that we need to 'create' jobs for anyone. I remember watching a History Channel special on the Navy Seals and they spoke about how many of them come back to start their own businesses...so bring them all back, let them do their own thing, no need to come up with "busy work" they are some of the most capable and self motivated people out there, I have faith in them. Their mere presence back here will help spur the economy through home purchases as well as their day to day economic activity of buying the basics like food, gas, and clothing.

He's unable to defend and explain his plan. Simple fact is that the 9% sales tax would be on top of any state sales tax. It's a terrible idea to open up another stream of revenue for the federal government and while I agree that Americans need to get their balance sheets in order, taxing consumption at a time when demand is low is only going to add to our economic woes. I have a bridge to sell to those who think those "hidden taxes" would go away.

Most people join the military today because decent paying jobs are few and far between....If we close our bases around the world and bring most of the soldiers back some provisions have to be made for them...When and if they leave the military they are still going to have trouble finding decent paying jobs. Then what? Will they draw unemployment? Will they have to go on welfare and food stamps to be able to feed their families? If they go to work at "Mc Donald's" or take another low paying job they still might have to rely on a little help from welfare and food stamps....It's impractical to bring so many soldiers home at the same time when jobs are so scarce. All of this has to be well "thought out" and considered. This is the job of the president. A president is responsible and accountable for the decisions he or she makes....Same goes for shutting down all of the government depts. and laying off so many people at the same time when jobs are so scarce.....I might take Ron Paul's ideas more seriously if he had more plans and provisions for workers. He can't just "dump" everyone into a "bad economy" and walk away. This is not being a good leader as far as I'm concerned. And I won't vote for him (or anyone else) who doesn't "factor in" all the "variables."

A serious question which in no way is intended to deride Rep. Paul, but...

Congressman Paul has been a member of Congress since 1997 and not once has he been able to pass a major piece of legislation and certainly nothing on the scale of which he is currently promoting as a candidate for the Presidency. His policies have little support within the Congress or the Senate nor do his views reflect the current thinking of either the leadership of the Republican or Democratic Parties. So absent a whole sale change of the Congress on a scale never before seen, how would President Paul enacted any of his major policy points?

I agree with you about Cain. I wonder where he will end up in the polling next week.
