Newt Gingrich promised Wednesday on Florida’s space coast to create a moon colony by 2020 if elected president.

"By the end of my second term, we will have the first permanent base on the moon. And it will be American," Gingrich told the crowd of roughly 700, taking them to their feet in applause.
First Read - Gingrich promises US moon colony by 2020

Oh boy. Here he goes. The old nutty Newt is coming out.

I guess as long as he promises to be the first resident of the new colony, I won't try to stop him.

You do know this isn't the first time he's talked about colonizing the moon - right?

I just hope this doesn't help him get votes on the space coast...surely it won't. And, even if it does, it will hurt him in the rest of FL.

Sounds good. Newt's an idea guy and I am liking him more every day.

Well it sounds like he got at least 700 votes out of it.

Yep...which is terrifying.

After typing that post, I thought that someone could read that and think I was joking. I wasn't. So many people are desperate for work right now and, especially on the space coast I'm sure, people are very intrigued by any possible future space endeavors, no matter how outlandish they may be.

Does Newt have an estimate for how much this will cost?

The more I read about Newt, the more it seems he is just really unbalanced. I saw some notes he wrote today that were part of the ethics investigation and he was either on some serious drugs or has some other real issues. He had himself as center of universe in one with everyone and eveything in circles around him and then in another one he and his 2nd wife at the time were in the center. Pare that with his involvement with the Tofflers and it he just gets stranger and stranger.

He is also going to put mirrors up there so we won't need street lights down here anymore. Not sure what that will do for global warming...but how knows? It might also end the need for tanning beds, would that be creative destruction?

Seems like his priorities are completely screwed up.

And people think Paul is the crazy one...
