It's ignorant to think that he could help sway Latino voters in a national election. Rubio is Cuban. 96.5% of Latino voters are not. What do Cubans have in common with other Latino groups? Roman Catholicism and a language descended from Castilian Spanish, and that's it. Hispanic people from the continent (Mexico and southward) in particular really don't have any racial or cultural ties to Cuba. I imagine some Cubans would flock to vote for this guy, but nobody else will care.

Correct, Ted Cruz did poorly among hispanic voters in Texas. Only a Mexican-American might make a difference.

Yep, and Cruz got 57% of the total vote in Texas, exactly the same as Mitt Romney got.
Perhaps it will dawn on the someone in the GOP that a sensible white guy would do more to attract minority voters than a token minority. But I doubt it.
If the GOP runs with the 2012 or even further right platform, no one will help them with the Latino vote. By 2030, that voting block is projected to double to 40 million.

Well, you're correct but only by accident.
Yes, Rubio is a non-starter who will fail to deliver the votes of Hispanics, blacks and women.
The reason for this is that the recent transformation of the US political landscape is not based on race or gender but a candidate's willingness to pander.
Conservative Republicans, and especially those with Tea Party credentials, are pledged to treat all citizens equally, control spending and limit the federal government's involvement is the lives of the people.
Those conservative principles run counter to the desires of the recipient class and various groups that compete for special treatment under the law.
Regardless of any conservative's racial and/or religious pedigree, his or her ideology just won't sell in moochville America.

this has been mentioned over and over, it is not new. The fact is: first, he is a minority with roots from another country. He is very popular and the fact that he speaks spanish, regardless of the type is a plus...So, sorry, I don'tthink you have it completely correct..No, he isn't going to sway every Hispanic to his side, but he certainly would bring some over.

Your last sentence is making the same point that I made. As for speaking Spanish, do you feel any inherent comradery or kinship with people like Belizeans, Guyanans, Jamaicans, or Indians? Because they all speak forms of English.

The objective is to begin the trashing of Rubio, who the left sees as a future threat. They must "take him out," so to speak.
I think it's time that we Republicans take a page from their own book, and seek weaknesses in their candidates and begin trashing them also. Surely, their candidates have flaws that can be exploited.
If this is the way the game is to be played, we have to play it that way too.
Marco Rubio WILL NEVER be the GOP nominee of anything, and even if the GOP were foolish in nominating such a token in 4 years, the Democrats will once again win the White House in a landslide in 2016. Besides, I'm already starting to read on some right-wing nutjob blogs and comments on news articles how Rubio is not even a US citizen and is thus ineligible to be POTUS or VP. This is coming from GOPers.
And just look at Mia Love or Allen West to see how well GOP minorities do in elections: and these were supposed to be safe GOP pick-ups.
Many Repubs will simply stay home if a minority is the candidate and Democrats will vote for the Democrat. Again, see Allen West and Mia Love to see how a Marco Rubio candidacy will stack up against an Andrew Cuomo or Hillary Clinton. A 400 electoral vote landslide for Team Blue.

Who cares? Obama's second admin will have effectively sealed the fate of the nation. At this time, we are just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
