Christie a moderate repub. wins NJ and Terry Mcauliffe wins VA. a dem. Which will show that the hard line tea baggers are not gong to win in this country. If the Republicans keep pushing for these radical nuts they will keep losing.

So to on the far left, these nuts will not win out side of the crazy places like NY and Cal. The whole lets get rid of oil and bike to work and have one CF light bulb is not gong to pass muster either. Or the idea that GMOs are bad and we need to not eat meat and grow our own raw food crap. Its radicals on both sides that turn off the whole middle.

Christie is a shoo in. I don't know who will win in Va but I think the democrap has a slight advantage thanks to the libertardian screwing things up. Oh and no if the Democrap wins it means nothing against the tea party it means the demographics in Va are changing...more illegals and more yankees from NJ,Maryland and Pa moving to Va and voting...Oh and I think the Colorado counties WILL vote to secede from Colorado as well. Any other interesting elections going on?

Cuccinelli is catching up pretty quickly, so we'll see what happens. Also, neither Cuccinelli or McAuliffe are well-liked at all. Also, you must have been in a coma when Richard Tisei, Linda McMahon, Charlie Bass, Scott Brown, and Gabriel Gomez all lost in the past year, and all three of them were moderate, "sane" Republicans that supposedly win, and all of them ran in the Northeast, the moderate Republican heartland. Scott Brown lost to Elizabeth Warren, for goodness sakes. If voters rewarded moderation so much, how come they chose a liberal Democrat over a moderate "sane" Republican?

Chris Christie is an authoritarian, not a Tea Partier, but he isn't exactly a moderate, either; he just is perceived to be a moderate. Plus, there was sort of a perfect storm in terms of his approval ratings with the Obama hug and Hurricane Sandy; he did nothing for the victims except shoot his mouth off, hug Obama, and then pretend they didn't exist, so why his approval ratings are so high is beyond me. Nevertheless, his perception as a moderate is not what is helping him cruise to victory, although in a deep-blue state it certainly helps. The geography is sometimes lost on people - in conservative states like Texas, Utah, or Idaho there's no reason not to run a conservative candidate; if anything a conservative would be more popular in those states. Mike Lee won an open seat in 2010 by 29 points, a similar margin to what the previous incumbent Bob Bennett obtained in previous elections.

In New Jersey, one of your "hard-line tea baggers" Steve Lonegan lost to Cory Booker by 10 points. While that seems like a big loss, consider that Romney lost to Obama in New Jersey by 17 points, and also consider that Romney was a more moderate candidate than Lonegan.

This excerpt from Townhall.com sums up your ilk's attitudes quite nicely:

Quote:
3) You're a winner just by virtue of being an establishment Republican: When Tea Partiers rally behind a candidate who loses, it's because those guys don't know what they're doing. When establishment Republicans rally behind a candidate who loses, then they obviously selected the best candidate and no other candidate could have won. Establishment Republicans have a great formula: Win races, do nothing with that power that will make the media mad at you, which leads to more victories, which leads to doing nothing with that power that will make the media mad at you and so on and so on until the GOP totally dominates. Sure, that strategy may have lost the GOP the last two presidential elections and has produced only 45 senators so far, but it should start working any time now.
Also, our votes belong to us, not the two major parties; the spoiler argument presumes that the two parties have some sort of ownership claim on voters, but in a democracy votes are not given, they have to be earned. If Cuccinelli cannot convince 10% of voters that he's a better candidate than Sarvis (who BTW is running on a very different platform) then that's his problem. Also, there is no polling evidence whatsoever that all or even most of Sarvis's voters would go out and vote for Cuccinelli if Sarvis was not running. There's still time for Cuccinelli to drop out and endorse Sarvis .

Then Republicans have a larger problem, Democrats and Independents.

FYI...not all brown people are "illegals". That is another problem Republicans have, folk with your kind of thinking that vote Republican.

You are a perfect Yard Sign for "Anyone Other Than Republican".

No, Cuccinelli is not catching up pretty quickly. He's not even catching up at all.

good post: I think anyone even suggesting we predict todays results is just looking for something to poast about: we all know what is going to happen and we know it doesn't mean the end of either side. Now, I am taking a break from this and going to spend the day at the bridge table.
