By the way, the penalty for illegal voting in MS:
Quote:
Any person who shall vote at any election, not being legally qualified, or who shall vote in more than one county, or at more than one place in any county or in any city, town, or village entitled to separate representation, or who shall vote out of the district of his legal domicile, or who shall vote or attempt to vote in the primary election of one party when he shall have voted on the same date in the primary election of another party, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and, on conviction, shall be fined not exceeding two hundred dollars, or be imprisoned in the county jail not more than six months, or both.
§ 97-13-35 - Voting; by unqualified person, or at more than one place, or for both parties in same primary :: 2013 Mississippi Code :: US Codes and Statutes :: US Law :: Justia

I hope Cochran and the GOP plan on reimbursing all those ineligible voters they scammed for their fines, or plan on serving their jail time for them.

But you see (or perhaps you don't), if procedures were in place to detect and not allow ineligibles to vote and that was enforced at some times and then not enforced at other times during the election the problem lies with the poll workers, not the voters.

Yeah, I don't think anything is going to happen to the individual voters, either.

Then why is there a statute punishing illegal voters? $200 fine and 6 months in jail.

Why should they get away with committing a crime?

The only way to stop illegal voting is to prosecute it and punish it when it happens. The Democratic Poll Books combined with the Ballot Receipt Books voters are required to sign are rock solid evidence. There is no doubt that crimes were committed.

Because prosecuting them isn't practical. They need to focus on the conspirators.

But again, there were rock solid procedures in place to prevent illegal voting from even happening. And yet, those rock solid procedures were both enforced and ignored at differing times. In the same election at that. And the state election laws themselves are murky (an understatement) to say the least.

Who committed the crime? Voters who were told that they were eligible to vote or poll workers who knew that they weren't eligible but said otherwise?

In any event, I'm not convinced that massive voting fraud took place. No proof yet, just accusations and rumors.

Police don't prevent all crime, do they? No.
