Cruz does not have to (cannot, actually) win the delegate race. He knows it. His (and Kasich's) game plan is to simply deny Mr. Trump of just enough delegates to force a contested convention, where they could take out Mr. Trump with the help of the GOP.

Except of course, it's not going to happen. Trump has an easy path to scoring the delegates he needs.
Note that "winner take all/most" states include states that award delegates on a "winner take all" basis for each congressional district and a small amount for winning the entire state. It's not that simple.

I've taken that into account in my OP. You still haven't addressed it.
