When it comes down to it Trump is not a politician because a smart one would have been able to dance around that abortion question until the cows came home.

I've never said that. In my opinion, it's murder, and I do think that they should be charged. Tough toboggans if people don't like that opinion.

He did not, Matthews kept interrupting him and hounding him, if he would have shut the hell up for a minute, maybe Trump could have gotten his answer out better. Either way, I don't agree with his backtracking, but that doesn't mean I'm going to dismiss him entirely over one issue. I think of more than one issue at a time, and right now, abortion is not on the top of my list.

In California, a woman wanting a legal abortion appeared before a panel of docs designated by the hospital and made her case - she had to show that she was a victim of rape or incest. I was working then at a hospital that did this, and most of the docs on the panel hated having to make this decision and wished that abortion was legal so they wouldn't have to. It's a clearcut decision when faced with a pregnant 12-year-old, not so clear when faced with a woman claiming rape and a man claiming consensual sex, because the decision about the pregnancy has to be made long before the trial takes place.
I don't know of any law during the 50s and 60s punishing the woman, but I suppose there might have been.
The informal punishment of course could be death from a botched illegal abortion.
That's where it should have stayed, state level, not federal government. Second, despite the statistics, that have been shown on this forum several times, the "rape/incest" argument is a tiny percent of the reasons for abortion. Most of those getting the abortions were not raped nor did they suffer incest. It's a matter of, "I want to act completely irresponsible and not be held accountable for my actions, so I'll just murder this inconvenience."

Didn't he say that women who get an illegal abortion should be punished? What's wrong with that? So if a woman illegally aborts a 40 week old baby there should be no consequences?
