Difference being he will do it with tax money that you had no choice but to pay him. Trump does it with money that you may have paid him, but at least had the choice to not pay him. Slavery vs free-agency. Nobody forced you to buy from a corporation Trump owns. Try not paying your taxes and see what happens.
You are correct, this is not right. Nor was it right when you guys were making up , or believing, false stories about Chelsea and Obamas' daughters. Even the mafia keeps families off limits when exacting punishment, but we don't seem to hold to those same standards.

Where did the concept of individual responsibility go? Why when Ivanka Trump gets harassed while minding her own business on a plane do people go to the "the fix was in" "she's made herself part of the Trump team so she's fair game' "why was she flying coach anyway" places? Why can't we just admit that what these guys as two individuals decided to do was wrong?
That the racist woman in KY was individually wrong? That the Muslim students in Michigan and NY who made false accusations were individually wrong? That black gangsters on the streets of Chicago are individually criminals? That individual racists on both sides are individually wrong? That a bad cop is individually bad?
We can talk about inciteful rhetoric and alt-whatever and racist-Trump-supporters and loony-liberals, but grown adults should be held to the standard that they are grown adults and fully responsible for their individual choices and behavior. The two guys on the plane were wrong - regardless of Ivanka's position with her father, regardless of her fathers' politics, regardless of why she chose to fly commercial, regardless of everything.
I don't understand why you call this false reporting? If you were going to punish false reporting Breitbart would be out of business, rather funny to complain about false reporting while Trump and Bannon who were original birthers and now they represent the White House.
These two "Plane Idiots" will be punished enough in the media, the Daily News has already published their faces and names.
trump was not an original "birther" that was a lawyer that supported the clinton campaign that started that crrap.
