After what America put in the White House in 2016, I think America could care less

It’s the same type of pandering we see when a woman or minority accomplishes something that many others have accomplished, but they’re written about as though they’ve walked on water.

I guess people have such low expectations for some members of society, that doing what many others have done puts them in an elite category. It’s offensive.
Jason Kander was getting the same kind of attention before he dropped out of the running. I get that you want to attack the left for "identity politics", but this isnt a case of that.

He is a new face, and people genuinely like him.

Exactly. He might not win but it is refreshing to see new faces and hear them. Specially those that are intelligent.

Attitudes toward gays have shifted dramatically since the turn of the century. Being gay no longer carries the stigma it once did.

I don't think being gay either hurts or helps Buttigieg. There are now openly gay members of the national and state legislatures, gay governors, gay county commissioners, and gay mayors all over the country.

If a person's sexual nature is a barrier, we would never have elected Donald Trump. If the Republicans can overlook a philanderer, I'm sure the Democrats can overlook a married gay man, especially one who's married and monogamous.

We've got a porn model for a First Lady right now, whose gay porn is accessible to anyone who cares to see it. A gay couple would actually be raising the bar at this point.

There is nothing wrong with being gay. There is something wrong with cheating on your wife.

My point being there is nothing for Dems to "overlook" in comparison to Republicans.

I think it reflects the weakness of the Dem field. We get to choose between a 77 yr old self-described socialist who never had a real job until age 40, and a lecherous 76 year old with a long history of corruption.

It's called grasping at straws.

Things have changed. When JFK ran there was a lot of talk about whether a Catholic man could be acceptable as president. When Nelson Rockefeller flirted with a run, there was talk about whether a divorced man could run. Thankfully all those old rules have been left behind.

FDR, Ike, JFK, LBJ, Nixon, Clinton all cheated. It is wrong, but is neither here nor there regarding their performance as president. FDR is ranked 3 by the CSPAN survey of historians, and Ike is ranked 5.
