I've been vocal about that here on C-D. So I thought it only fair to pass along my thoughts on his performance so far.

1. Overall, I'd give a solid "B" for his transition team, decisions, appointments etc. I would have given him an "A", but I had to deduct a full grade for his support and continuation of this ludicrous bailout mentality.

<BIG SPACE SAVING SNIP>

So, despite my huge misgivings before the election, I'm thinking "so far so good." He's still got a lot of policies and promises out there that make me nervous but as yet hasn't acted on any of them so I didn't include them in my "grades".

Good post with a refreshingly open-minded view!

As far as the bailouts, as much as they may suck and rescue greedy little bastards who deserve no rescue, I believe they're necessary to prevent something worse.

I view them as I do Ford's pardon of Nixon. As much as I would have liked to see Nixon on the wrong end of a rope I give Gerald Ford full credit for doing what was best for the country if not his political career.

I dont think that spreading prosperity has to mean taking it from someone to give it to another.....and his plan had nothing to do with free handouts! Never did, especially not taking from one working family to give it to another that wasnt working. It wasnt about that.....that was the McCain spin on it.

I do believe that inheritance taxes are very appropriate.....that is a good time to do some redistribution......I dont think that Cindy McCain or Theresa Heinz or Paris Hilton or Chelsea Clinton or the Romney boys.....have a right to inherit the full family fortune.....at the time the estate is settled....a good chunk of family wealth should get re-invested in America.

I am the one saying that and not Obama.

If someone works hard and makes a good living, why penalize them so that someone living on public assistance can get a bigger handout? Yes, I know I'm generalizing and it's not all that black/white, but in my opinion, that's the gist of the "spread it around" mentality that bugs me so much.

I can get completely behind encouraging everyone to be the best they can be and providing economic carrots to do so. But no free handouts, especially at the expense of other hardworking people. (taxpayers)
So, I take it you oppose the 800 billion that went to bail out the wealthy of Wall Street especially the 70 billion that went to CEO BONUSES that they received for FAILING at their jobs. ????

Don't much care for Obama. That said...

It may seem weasel-y to say one thing and then change your tune the second you're elected (referring to his pledge to increase taxes), but I have to say that I would rather he change his mind as he understands the situation/economy better than just blindly hold to that dumb promise for the sake of not going back on his word. So I have to give him kudos for that.

I also think creating more jobs is a better way to stimulate the economy than handing out checks to the same group of people who mismanaged their money in the first place (read: greedy corporations, Wall Street thugs, and much of the middle class). So kudos #2.

[I hope he finds a better way to do it, however, than by making the government a big employer (this ain't the Great Depression - out of work Citibank employees are not going to just suddenly pick up a shovel and dig out a railroad).]

I don't stand to inherit jack-cr*p, but I am disgusted to read this.

So all these people who inherit...they just suck in your eyes b/c they didn't do a darn thing to 'earn' their money?

Ok. Keep in mind, however, as you work hard to build a better future for your children and their offspring...that at one point, someone busted his butt so that decades later, his kids/grandkids/greatgrandkids could enjoy a better life. The taxes have already been paid on those earnings.

Someone was enterprising enough to make that fortune in the first place. Why don't you go make your own fortune instead of stalking other people's money and envying their success?

That took longer to type than a simple "yes" or "no".

It's a weasel.

You seem to think paying estate taxes will impoverish the inheritors. There are dozens of tax avoidance schemes - entire sections of financial planning firms in fact - dedicated to protecting the poor little bunnies from the thoughtlessness of their imprudent, inconsiderate forebears. Why should they be tortured by the very country that helped their family make its money in the first place? It's an outrage, I tell you.

(And what's with you right wingers constantly accusing everyone else of jealousy and envy? Sarah Palin, gift tax, it just doesnt end.)

Overall, a failing grade... we will see next year when he implements his socialist policies but its weird.. China started out as a socialist country and had a bunch of problems.. their cure? Free market capitalism which will lead them to be "THE" superpower of the world... What does America do? Start with free market capitalism and enjoy decades of wealth and power to going into socialism... great, he wants us to be like China when they were corrupted by these politicians...

lol...The Republicans are in charge...the Republican socialists proposed the bailouts and implemented them at the highest level, hard to blame that on a guy who's not President....

How does one fill government positions with folks experienced in Government who are neither Democrat or Republican and haven't worked in any Administration? Just Curious.
