How old are you any way? Just a decade anyway. "40s" "50s" etc. Because with your feelings about physical media, you don't sound like a day over twenty.

There is no right or wrong answer. Whatever works for anyone is correct. Being in my 50s, I continue to purchase physical media. I bought the Sgt Pepper Box set for over $100 last year. I will be being the White Album boxed set in November no matter what it cost. Its funny that i buy them but I do not play them. I rip them and play those so I can keep the cds in mint condition.

I will never stream. I have no desire to listen to all my songs from the web. What if you cant access the internet for some reason. Your cable company has an outage, heavy overcast blocks your satellite dish, etc. I want my music and movies when I want to watch them. I don't want to be a slave to what is available.

When I bought albums like Hotel California and Led Zeppelin II back in the 70s, I bought the album and I want to hear that album now, the way the artist intended. I have no interest in hearing the one or two hits and then hear a similar band's songs right after.

You mention several good reasons why it is a bad idea to rely on streaming and I am going to mention another one you forgot and that is bandwidth caps. I have Comcast and a telco for internet options. Comcast has a bandwidth cap. I can stay with the telco provider but eventually their prices will increase. Since I own my music, movies and TV shows, I can switch between Comcast and the telco periodically to keep my internet costs lower. Since I don't have to stream for all my media wants; I can live with Comcast's cap for 1 to 2 years at a time to get the benefits of introductory pricing from both providers. Of course what happens if all providers collude to impose bandwidth caps. People will have to cut their streaming down or pay the overage penalties.

I utilize streaming to find new-to-me content and if I like something I will go out and buy a copy.

It's possible to go digital without relying on streaming.

Theoretically yes but digital providers can use different types of DRM to limit how those digital files are used. I prefer to rip off the discs because I control how the digital files are created giving me much more flexibility. The only drawback is storage of the discs although switching from jewel cases to the paper envelopes is an option especially if the discs are for archival purposes and not handled very often. I have not converted my disc archive from cases to envelopes but I could easily fit my entire disc library in one large cardboard box using the envelopes and I have well over one thousand discs on hand across all media formats.
