Interesting. I have never heard of Market of Choice, but it sounds like it is worth a visit. I suppose, coming from where I do (Juneau) Whole Foods seemed like the Disneyland of foods to me. Life-long Alaskans (even well traveled ones) tend to be easily impressed.

And it sounds as if Whole Foods is the classier equivalent of NIMBY Walmart, when it comes to corporate greed. Also interesting. I have much to learn.

Well, since we're on the topic, Market of Choice used to be "Price Chopper" but rebranded somewhere around ...2005?

They not only changed the name, but pretty significantly changed their operations to look something more like a Wegmans (which being from Alaska you probably don't know either, but it shows up pretty consistently now on the list of top U.S. grocery stores, a la: Wegmans, a Regional Chain, Named America's Favorite Grocery Store - Fortune).

The result is something filling that hybrid middle/upper-middle class niche, whereas WF is a bit more purely upper-middle class in its offerings.

But if you were familiar with Wegmans I would probably have just said "MoC is a Wegmans clone" and left it at that.

Thanks for that explanation! And yes, I did need the extra info. Never heard of Wegmans. WF is terribly expensive.

Whole Foods is expensive, and is Market of Choice. Personally, I don't really eat enough when I'm there to justify budget shopping. When I lived in Eugene full-time, I bulk shopped at Winco every once in awhile when I felt up to putting up with the noise and the mess and did my everyday shopping at Market of Choice.
