Let's say that you have no other choice but to move to Europe.. and It has to be Central/ eastern europe.. you will get free help to learn the native language as quickly as possible.
Where would you like to live the most?
That's easy - wherever the most beautiful women are.
Slovenia is my number one choice. Romania is a close second because it speaks a romance, latin-based language--I think that would make language acquisition better/easier since I already speak another romance, latin-based language.
The fact that most people where you live classify these countries as Eastern European means nothing but that they're wrong. The list includes countries that are not eastern European (Czech Republic, Hungary, etc), and excludes countries that are eastern European (Greece, Cyprus, etc). The only thing that countries on the list have in common is that they are post communist. OP's intention seems to me was to identify the post communist countries, NOT eastern European countries, and therefore the name of the topic does not make sense.
I personally hate the fact that czech rep, Poland, hungary and slovakia are referred to as "eastern european" while they are central... but i had to include them because most people from the west think they are eastern
Poll results do not surprise me so far...
Czech rep, Slovenia, Poland and Croatia are the most popular... Czech rep, poland and Slovenia all have higher quality of life compared to other countries in the region and better economy... while Croatia is simply beautiful, and doing well too!
Why? Do you think the definition of the word "east" has changed? Without needing to nitpick it to death, it is pretty obvious (by looking at the poll choices) that the OP means East of some arbitrary line that distinguishes it from West.
The purpose of the "name of the topic" is to enable the user to scan down a list of topics and identify them in very general terms, not to define every word that can be used in a wide-ranging discussion of the topic. In fact the TOS of this board ordains that the topic titles should be as concise as possible, and not ramble on and on with several lines of qualifications of what every word in the question might mean to people with different geographical, cultural and historical perspectives.
The name of the topic makes perfect sense, if you consider that the countries listed in the poll generally lie to the east of the countries that are not listed in the poll. So in whose distorted world view does "east" not make sense?
I agree with you, Eastern Europe. The problem is that many nationals of those countries hate the tag, they want to return to the topography used during the Austro-Hungarian Empire!!!
Serbia.
Because the Serbian people paid the price (2000 dead during the NATO bombings in 1999) of having gesisted The Empire....and as a consequence had their country divided into pieces (Serbian Bosnia, Montenegro, Kosovo are cut from Mainland Serbia)
Yeah Prague would be my choice too, because it's the most Western out of the bunch and you have Berlin, Krakow, Munich and Vienna all within a 4 hour drive.
