Not only that, she publicly stated some bat**** crazy stuff, that supposedly the DNR fighters "are going into battle with the icons of Nicolas II," and that he "protects Donbass from Bandera."

In the Kremlin, Poklonskaya's request caused confusion and an uncertain delayed response. The Ministry of Culture of Russia said that the question of issuing certificates for rental of the film will be decided upon the completion of work on the picture.[13][12][14][15]

I think that "Nicolas II" is the last thing on the minds of Donetsk population under the current circumstances.
As I probably mentioned, Eastern Ukraine has tendency to be left-leaning; (much more so than Moscow lol.)
As for the "church gaining more power" - that's true too.
When you have rich people ( and their money) in charge of the country, with plenty of others sinking in poverty, that doesn't work too well for the "national unity." So Putin and Co employ the Orthodox Church, in order to provide the population with "common ground" and "spiritual ideas" instead of former "Soviet ideology" to unite the nation - that's the way I see it.

You describe PART of Russian establishment as if it pertains to the whole country.
In reality it doesn't, it doesn't at all.
Plenty of people in Russia don't support these ideas, but they won't rock the boat for the reasons I explained many times earlier. Which is smart thing to do on their part under the circumstances.
