From what I understand, there's all kinds of black folks living in Europe, especially the Western part of it so it's probably not too much different than being in a minority group in the US.

Is the percentage of blacks living in European cities as large as it is in the U.S. Northeast, Midwest, and South?

Paris seems to have the most from what I have seen. I don't know the percentage, but it was many more than I expected before visiting. It isn't Atlanta, but it isn't Boise either.

Default blax

One thing I noticed about the blacks in the Netherlands is that the bulk of them don't originate directly from Africa.
For example many of the Indonesians the Dutch brought to their country are physically close to blacks.

The main reason why their is a large amount of people of African descent in London (United Kingdom), Paris (France) and the Amsterdamn (Nethlerlands), Madrid/Barcelona(Spain), Lisbon (Portugal) has to do with the LARGE colonial empires that each of these countries had and continue to have influence on worldwide. Each of these countries established slave holding/trading/Indentured Servitude colonies that flourished economically, bringing goods and economic stature (From free/cheap labor) throughout the new world.

These countries imported African-Slaves/Indentured Servants from thier homelands to the new colonies in the new world(Carribean, Central & South America, India, etc..everywhere besides Europe that European countries establish colonies). After the slave trade was abolished these colonies went into Africa and divied up the African Continent into thier own colonies for thier own good and still utilize the resources in Africa to this day. Even though these African & New World countries are "free" most still have strong ties to thier "Mother Colony" back in Europe because of the language, customs, religion, culture that was forced upon them.

In many cases, most of the ruling class/higher/middle class of Africa/New World who through education/family ties/financial status (The small class of people who mixed with Europeans early on who were put 2nd in command in most cases) have always been in Europe since colonialism. Also many of the European countries gave citizenship/educational oppurtunities at European Universities to citizens of many of their colonies so their has been a steady pipeline heading to Europe from Africa/New World colonies since colonialism began.

Therefore you will always have people of African descent in European countries because that is the lasting legacy of colonialism.

Pretty much. A lot of the old colonial powers basically offered citizenship to the people from their colonies and a lot of people from the colonies took them up on it after the powers went home. The majority of the black population of Europe has come within the past 50 years and now comprises a large portion of the cities mentioned.

I believe Portugal is about the only European country that historically had anything resembling a substancial African population, which has now been assimilated. I've read that the average Portuguese person has about 10% black African genes. I've also read that the African "contributions" to the Italian and Spanish gene pools are greatly exagerrated.

As I said earlier, in the Netherlands, many of the blacks are actually of Indonesian descent. It has something to do with colonialism but not Africa.

Btw, Sweden has a substantial number of blacks, yet they have nothing to do with Swedish colonialism.

That's why I said Africa/New World (Everywhere else besides Europe that the Euros colonized)...Please refer to Dutch Empire - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia for more information. The Dutch colonized most of Indo-Asian/SE Asia(The chain of islands south of SE Asia and North of Australia which may be the "Blacks" your referring to. They are not "Black" in the sense of being of being from African-descent but many of them have darker skin.

I'm very aware of Sweden having a decent sized immigrant population (without the colonization efforts) of not only black but of many races now. I have friends there and they tell me that some are not happy about it but the Swedish government has always been torelant or accepting immigrants from other lands. I have alot of Swedish friends whose family comes from Eritrea, Etihopia & Russia.
