Don't need to ask. I follow this closely enough to actually know what football workouts generally look like...and it ain't Crossfit.

I dunno about that, Tom. For a combat soldier, I think CrossFit would stand a much better chance at keeping them alive than a pure powerlifting regimen would. Ditto for a pure bodybuilding regimen.

When bullets are flying, running and jumping are good skills to have.

Usain Bolt's Workouts and Diet | MotleyHealth

Bolt uses a combination of plyometric training and weight training to build functional strength. The core exercises for improving performance over 100m and 200m are:
  • Weighted Lunges with heavy dumbbells
  • Weighted Squats
  • Cable Leg Drives
  • Explosive step ups with weighted barbell
  • Bunny Hops / Box Jumps
  • Frog Leaps
  • Ankle Rolls
  • High-knee Skips
  • Strides

Well, I have real world experience and -- while I don't have a pure powerlifting regimen, it's closer to that then of cross fit.

What keeps me alive is tactics, skill, knowledge and teamwork. Cross fit teaches me none of that =). But, if we're talking about endurance - well, the power lifting style routine that I adhere to helps me quite a bit, especially leg strength. Cross fit doesn't have the big secret to keeping combat soldiers alive through endurance training.

You work directly with professional athletes? Great! Ask them why they don't do CrossFit, then. Boom. You've got the answer to the question that you asked.

I never said it did, Tom.

I also said a "purely powerlifting" regimen. You have PT test to take, as well as organized PT sessions, I'm sure. I bet you do plenty of running/conditioning work already. Right?

Hmmmm, weighted lunges, weighted squats, step-ups, box jumps. Sounds like a lot of stuff CrossFitters do....

Believe it or not, I don't do much running and conditioning.

On a recent deployment, I ran two miles in 11:42. That's with no running or conditioning. I also went from high altitude (5500ft) to sea level.

All the PT tests I take, I score 95%+ on. I could probably score 100%, but I don't like running. I do enough to get by, so I'll usually run a mile and a half in about 10-10:30. 300m sprint is 38-39 seconds (I just did this for a Sheriff Academy test).
