Yes, the thread is 12 yrs old, but this subject reminds me of something my mom used to say way back in the day.

To HER, red nails meant 'cheap'. Clear polish was acceptable, but red was cheap. In a similar vein, my sister's MIL thought that polka dots were cheap. LOL

I think red is bold, and that's not a bad thing. I don't do any nail polish too much, but I'll do red lips often. I'm light skinned and white/silver haired. I look great with red lips.

And now it's current again. There's another thread about red lipstick. That thread is mostly women
(presumably) and this one seems to be about men's opinion's, so I'll say this, when red lipstick is done well, I find it appealing, 0therwise it reminds me of the Joker in Batman. Just please, no black line around the edges. I find it garish and distracting. As for red fingernails, Less than 1/2 inch is appealing, but longer does approach the "drag queen" look. But they do make for a good back scratching. Sexist commentary, yes. Worth what you paid for it.
Guilty.

"Red lips, hair, and fingernails,
I hear you're a mean old Jezebel!"

Not a good look for a "shrinking Violet" type, but if you are bold enough to walk the walk, go ahead and talk the talk.

I personally find it quite appealing, if done right and the rest of the "package" is there. Fire Engine Red looks great on a Corvette, it seems ridiculous to me on a Camry, if you get my drift.

Don't like red, don't wear it. Don't like it on me, don't look. If you look and get upset, then die mad. Nobody cares, especially me.

What amazes me is that someone (yes, I recognize the orig post is 12 years old) thinks that women care about his opinion of what we wear.

My most recent nail color (that I took off this weekend because it was chipping) was not only BRIGHT red, it was glittery as well. And on the list of things I considered when choosing the color, the opinion of any man was about 2,483,961 down on the list.

Or, it's yet another thread to dog on women and their appearance (we get plenty of those brand-new without having to drag them out of the past for a fresh round of vitriol). In which people will not notice how old the thread is and respond to 12-year-old posts as if the person will read their reply.

"Ladies, I can't stand red nails and red lipstick"

Then don't wear 'em!

I like a nice red lip, but in a satin or matte finish...not some high-shine, goopy, greasy-looking-looking finish.

I don't really wear red nail polish. I prefer purplish, burgundy, magenta colors for nails. Sometimes, I'll wear silver polish.

It's gotta be the right red on the right skin tone.
