Society does not look down on people with tattoos the way you all claim to.
Actually, you misunderstand. We're not "looking down" on people with tattoos, we're ridiculing them for jumping on board a fad and claiming that for them - and JUST for them - its not a fad.

Like jumping on a message board to interpret your own assumptions of others is any less ridiculous.

It could have been a fad for me. It's hard to look at my own motives objectively, you know? But Mod cut.. Like you or anybody never followed a fad? Please.
Mine has meaning for me. I've had it for 15 years and don't regret it. I like it and have no desire to remove it. Whether I got it because of a fad--who cares? I've done stupider things than etch something I like onto my skin.

Reason: Inappropriate language.
What's involved in removing them? Who does it? How much?
I don't have any and would NEVER consider it.
Please help me understand why someone would do it when a "lifestyle" change or "change of heart" will then have them seek to have it/them removed.
I can see, maybe, if it's in a hidden spot, above the trunk line or on the back of the shoulder, but one of the stupidest locations is smack in the middle of a calf.
Removing them is a long, expensive, and painful process. It usually takes about 8-15 treatments to remove the tattoos with a laser.
There are two lasers; one for color, and one for black. Black is the easier color to remove. Green, purple, and blue take a longer time to remove.
A small tattoo can cost $500 to remove. Larger ones are thousands of dollars to remove.
People want them removed, because they are possibility changed in the 10 or however many years since they had the tattoo done.
Sure! I have a generic disorder and my body doesn't produce a certain enzyme, so I got a rendered view of that enzyme tattooed on me. To many I'm sure it looks like squiggly lines, but to me it reminds me of the trials I went through dealing with my medical issues. Plus, now that I have it tattooed on me I guess I sort of have the enzyme as well
I also have a little plane propeller that I got tattooed behind my ear the week I received my pilots lincense. Obvious meaning there since aviation is my passion.
I addition I also have a very beautiful lower arm tattoo that involves birds and flowers that represents overcoming obstacles. My sister drew it so it is very special to me.
An added bonus is that they cover up most of my IV scars from the time I spent in the hospital and the twice monthly IV infusions I had for 15 years until I had my mediport put in.
