I've been reading blogs and articles about paring down one's wardrobe to only what actually gets worn. I've pared down to a reasonable, but not sparse, minimum, and my closet looks and feels the better for it.
Which makes me curious about where I am in the continuum of clothing acquisition...

1. How many dresses do you own? Approx. 20 (Though admittedly I wear less than half of them).
2. How many skirts? (Approx. 10)
3. How many dressy trousers? (meaning, no jeans, sweatpants, or leggings.) Approx. 5-10
4. How many shorts? 4

I was considering more shorts, but I decided to invest in summer dresses instead. I'm wearing one as I post and am feeling more feminine (I mostly wear capris for practical reasons, but I missed the art of dressing up and recently added a few dresses to my wardrobe.)

I'm glad you didn't include jeans and blouses, because I have far too many.

I'll likely lose at least 4 dresses (I don't wear or no longer fit), and hopefully at least a quarter of my jeans and blouses.

Dresses 1 (I don't look good in dresses)
Skirts 2 (ditto)
Dressy Trousers (including the bottom halves of trouser suits) 7
Shorts 0 (it's usually not warm enough in San Francisco)

Dress: around 20
Skirts: about 12-15
Dress pants: 4 and I don't think any fit well right now, I default to dresses or skirts for dress up occasions.
Shorts: 0, it only gets warm enough for them a few days a year and on those days I wear skirts or dresses. This weekend was one of those hot weekends, and I wore cotton dresses and skirts.

1. How many dresses do you own? 15
2. How many skirts? 20
3. How many dressy trousers? 2
4. How many shorts? 2 -- I never can get shorts that fit right so the ones I have are for around the house, cleaning house, etc.

Wow, I'm doing better than I thought! I am a full time student though and I work from home. So, I have more casual pants and t-shirts and pajamas than anything else! I have a few dressy things in case I ever need to go to court or a wedding but most of my wardrobe is super casual.

This is all seasons because where I live, I can wear the same stuff all year and just add a layer or a sweater in "winter". Heavier/thicker winter stuff is pretty useless here. Most of my dresses are summer weight knit or sundresses and in cooler months I add a cardigan and boots.

So why are there clothes seemingly everywhere? It's eBay inventory mainly. Sure makes it look like I have a ton of stuff but it's not really "mine".

That's quite the loaded question, I have

Dressy evening party and formal dresses, 10

everyday dresses 15 or so I have my favorites that get worn at least once every two weeks and a few that I've had for quite a few years which serve me well and still get compliments same for some in the dressy category since some things have a way of going in and out of style or are just a classic cut.

Skirts 10 or so.

dressy Pants 4 for colder temps love my palazzo pants of which I'll wear every week during cooler temps.

Those are the things I wear, don't ask about what's hidden from my eye sight of which needs to go the way of the dodo bird.

Most times the older everyday dressed become house dressed that don't get worn in public once their usefulness passes. If in good shape, some clothing go to charities.

I mentioned it because that's one area in which I'm not "overburdened"-
have a mere 5 pairs of footwear: sandals, sneakers, indoor slippers & 2 prs. boots.

But, again, am relieved you didn't ask about shirts/tops,
'cause I don't want to have to count them-then I'd actually know how many I have...

2. How many skirts? 1 (I basically never wear dresses or skirts)
3. How many dressy trousers? (meaning, no jeans, sweatpants, or leggings.) 3 (incl. 2 prs. corduroys)
4. How many shorts? a dozen (some for indoor/sleep use only, others for wearing out in public)

I don't include tops in this informal poll (sweaters, blouses, shirts, etc,) because we all know we have too much of the stuff.
Appreciated

Oh please don't even go there, it's bad enough I didn't actually go count my dresses, when I just took a peak and started counted, I must say, the everyday dress count of 15 or so is more like 25 or so o o o I rather stop counting. But I'll through in, I'm a budget shopper, so I got great deals on my spring and summer wear.

I'm about to clear out my shoes, I hardly wear even many of the more recently purchased ones.

Hmm, interesting. I go through a purge every few years. Here is what I currently have:

1. How many dresses do you own? (Please include off-season stuff): 8 work/casual weekend dresses. 1 wedding dress. 2 formal dresses (kind of thing you would wear to a semi formal wedding).

2. How many skirts? 7 (5 work/2 casual)

3. How many dressy trousers? (meaning, no jeans, sweatpants, or leggings.) 7

4. How many shorts? 2
