It's all based on the stylist's comfort level, skill-set and experience.

In certain instances, some upscale salons that are situated in major cities will take the added measure to hire diverse stylists to ensure that a wide variety of clientele can be serviced.

I go to three barbers - all are Latino and identify as Blatino. The shop two of them work at is African American owned and employs four African American barbers, three Latinos and one Asian Indian from the UK who gets lots of South Asians and Arabic-speaking people. The clientele of the shop is about 65 percent African American, 20 percent Latino, 10 percent White and the rest "other."
Blatino? Wow just when I think I have heard it all. I wonder how people come up with these words?

A person of African descent = Black
A person of Latin American origin = Latino
A person of Afro-Latin American origin, from Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Central or South America = Blatino

Pretty simple really. We've been using the term for years.

Really? I am from Puerto Rico and I had never heard of blatino. I have heard of latino, black white indian green blue purple orange. The way I was raised we were called Puerto Ricans period. But oh well I guess you learn something every day. Certainly not a term I will ever use to describe a latino who is from african descend. In fact if I was a black latino I would take that very offensively.

You're not, so don't worry about it.

I guess it's American-born Latinos who use the term.

I'm not offended at all.

I have never heard of it, but I agree it sounds a bit offensive.
I just googled it and it appears to be a term that is used most commonly by young urban gay men of color.
