I have tried Toms, La Vanilla and Dessert Essence. These all did not work for me at all. They lasted an hour or 2. I have definitely found the ones that combine baking soda and coconut oil provide the best and longest smell protection.

You may also find that the farmers market has vendors making homemade deodorants. I have found them effective, but I also realize that some essential oils (and baking soda) hate me. But these were very effective from a smell perspective. They lasted all day!

Also, you may find it helps to make sure you armpits are moisturized before applying the natural deodorant for more comfort and effectiveness.

I used to apply CertainDri as directed and it definitely helped for the sweating. Then I used deodorant on top of that. I need to go back to doing that because I hate the discoloration in the shirts from the sweating and I'm not even THAT sweaty.

I had a friend who tried switching to natural deodorants and I also informed her that she still had BO. She told me she was giving it a few days for her body to adjust but after awhile she gave up because the BO remained. I hope you have better luck and if you find something that works, please come back and report.

I wish I was like my husband who doesn't have to wear deodorant. He has not used it since I have known him (over ten years now) and he has never once had BO.

Have you tried a fresh lemon or possibly a lime? It's supposed to kill the bacteria.

I think it's just body chemistry for some of us. As for me, I eat a fairly bland diet, but they tell me my sweat really stinks.

Yes, I'll report back. I'm not going with homemade at the moment, although I'll experiment with that later.

Bikegal, it won't let me rep you, again, right now. I don't have much privacy at work. I run a cotton ball soaked in alcohol over my armpits in the bathroom stall, re-apply deodorant, change my shirt, and hope for the best.

I use rubbing alcohol. It's cheaper. I can soak several cotton balls, put them in a baggie and go on my way.

Default Although I may smell like a salad...

for a bit, I find swabbing apple cider vinegar on my pits helps tremendously with the odor problem.

That's an interesting idea.

I had to laugh because I've been leaving out a small amount of apple cider vinegar in a pop bottle to catch fruit flies in my kitchen. I can see using the vinegar under my arms and then having flies start following me! LOL. I'm sure it doesn't work like that, but what an image!

that's ok. oh, haha. I've seen some deodorant wipes, Pacifica makes some. Also, when I was in high school and was always nervous and sweating, I finally got one of those containers of wet wipe things that my grandparents would always have in their RV when I was younger, to wipe our hands - to freshen up during the day. I can't remember if it helped or not, but I'm sure it was probably better than nothing.

LOL!!!

Seriously, the vinegar in a bottle trick sounds good. We currently live in an apartment without a garbage disposal (we pay $1000/month), and fruit flies multiply around the trash before we can even set it out. I will try the vinegar trick, nothing to lose, except fruit flies!

This reminds me of an article I read about a guy who decided to try honey for a skin condition. He rubbed honey on his legs, then went to bed. He woke up the next morning being eaten alive by a trail of ants! So much for the natural stuff!

I used Sure all through High School. After that, I used whatever was on sale at Walgreens, probably Secret and some house brand stuff.

The concerns about chemicals seemed to increase about 1994 or so, if I'm recalling correctly. I think the breast cancer rates were especially high that year with some of the new diagnostic equipment. That was the first year I seem to recall the American Cancer Society putting out a list of products to avoid.

I might be wrong about the year.
