Karl Lagerfield's comments were off and I don't imagine that there's anyone who would support them. They show a distinct lack of understanding about what his job entails and he's nicely alienated his customer base, so I hope that works for him.

I'd also like to point out that at no time in this thread have I commented or made negative comment about thin models OR models at all. I think you'll find that as a general rule around here I don't attack thin, fat, tall or short women OR men either for that matter based purely on their physicality.

My objections are relating to his comments and him for making them and anybody who would like to support the warped misogynistic attack on women. It's high time elements of the fashion industry got its head out of its backside BUT I also know that they make these comments and project this impossible ideal and border on child pornography in order to make every other woman on the planet feel less so they can "help" them rectify their flaws. There's money to be made from that. It's such saintly work they're doing too. AND just so they can keep up their highly profitable little game and pretend they really care they make sure to be seen doing charity work so as to present as caring human beings.

Don't get me wrong. I like fashion but I'm not obsessed by it. I also derive satisfaction and pleasure from seeing a beautiful designed and made outfit bring out the best in a woman. It's just unfortunate that there are people in the fashion industry who like to perpetuate the bs that there's only one kind of woman that counts. It's divisive, it's pathetic, it's incredibly transparent and I can only hope that the stand being taken by a lot of designers and women and men will win through in the end and we will see designers have to hone their skills and expand their abilities by actually designing for a majority, instead of pushing forward a minority as an ideal.

Thanks.

It just beggars belief that this kind of comment is still being made in this day and age. If he doesn't want to design for average women well that's fair enough BUT I'd say that the majority of his clients ARE average women. I'm really not sure why he'd shoot himself in the foot like that.

I can't rep you again, either, but good response. Personally, I'm surprised that poster thinks he can make a redundant point when I already explained to him why Karl needs to be bashed for these ideas. Note the lack of response to my point, and I think that shows what we're dealing with here.

Different designers have different type models. This is just one type. Its kinda like music in that way.
But I do have to ask myself...are you a meaty mommy and not liking this comment he doled out? Lets all be really honest. Because if you really feel that your measurements don't measure you worth it should not even register on your radar. It would be nice if we lived some romper room love fest...But I have worn two sets of skin. It really does not matter what I think about anything because someone else will be the judgement and treatment I have to deal with. You do get treated differently based on your looks and wt. And this does not mean thin only. Women were a lot nice to me when I was meaty. I think everyone is lacking well rounded honesty. I find it amazing how looks change how you are treated by another. Everyone denies it...oh no..not me...But there is the one type that you do judge. It may not be a thick girl, a stick girl etc etc...But maybe its the skank, the churchie, the slob, the neatfreak.

I hardly find those supermodels gross either.

I am usually proud of my appearance, it does take "work", always has, and how I FEEL comes first. That certainly includes healthy choices.
How I look is the result. But thats my choice. Not everyone I know and love chooses this and I love and respect them no less.
I dont like men picking on women for their appearance. Its unkind, demeaning, dated to the point of archaic,
and very very shallow.
Usually such a bully is making up for a very small weiner.

I think most of the models are stunning and show off the merchandise (which remember they are hired to sell) very well.
Kind of like a clothes hanger. The clothes are meant to be the focus
There was some news about some dangerously thin models, but most are just "model thin" to show off the goods and make them desirable for purchase.

Jumpman likes em short and thick because he is on that side.
Or maybe I like them that way because I'm naturally attracted to women that are athletic rather than cardio bunnies perhaps? My god so much maturity on these boards. Taking shots at people randomly is totally what I expected from a forum targeted towards people in their mid 20-early 30s (this is coming from a 19 year old btw). This is why guys make fun of women for being so insecure. The minute somebody says anything negative about your preferences, you automatically get so defensive as if heavens will fall if one person disagrees with you. Grow up, or have the courage to say it to my face after you actually know who I am mmm k?

This made me laugh out loud

Oh Karl. You're old and that must be hard on anyone so vain, but every word out of your senile mouth is just a gift from the heavens ^_^

I'm not really offended...I take it where it's coming from. I could never tolerate listening to him prior to these comments. The man has an ego the size of Manhattan. He's too eccentric for me to take anything seriously.
