[quote=staywarm2;18899698]We lived in So. FL for 12 years and noticed that Hispanics, no matter how long they have lived in the U.S. (and FL) or how excellent their English is, will revert to speaking Spanish whenever there is a couple or more of them together. This is especially annoying in a business setting or in a restaurant where they can become quite loud.[/quot

I hate to break it to you but the same can be said of any ethnic group. I have friends who are from Holland, when the family gets together or speak on the phone they speak Dutch.

Know a family that own a restaurant who are French, guess what language they speak amongst themselves????? French.

If they're not speaking to you, how is it your business????

Interestingly enough the same question seemingly never comes up (or has in the past) regarding Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian, Pakistani, Serbian/Croatian and other immigrant groups that move to the US, despite most often living culturally separate from the mainstream population. The only common denominator is they typically don't settle in Florida. Which begs the question, why is Florida so culturally racist?

Maybe it's because when you look at the daily arrest records, the number of people arrested for a particular ethnic group is not proportionate to the population of the same ethnic group to the whole.

It's annoying, especially in a business environment--very unprofessional.

A little French or Dutch, etc. here and there is not irritating.

If you have not lived in a place in the U.S. where Spanish is spoken at every turn, then you don't know what you're talking about. This is the United States and our language is English. I shouldn't have to learn Spanish to live comfortably in my own country!

Eh, not quite. English may be Florida's official language, but the US doesn't have one.
