My wife and I moved here over a decade ago. We have great careers, beautiful children, great school, nice house a few blocks from the beach, etc. Irma broke something about Florida for us. We were without power for a week and it was hell. I've started looking for jobs in the north east and we're prepping our house to sell. There's something about September in the north. I just can't be unbearably hot anymore. Our neighborhood still smells of rotten debris.

I realize this may read like a complaint post. It's not. We've been all over Florida from the Keys to High Springs... we still love it and the plan is to come back for a week or two in the spring moving forward.

I guess the battle with the heat wore me out as a full-time resident.

Do whatever makes you happy. I think your reason for moving is irrational, but it's your life at the end of the day.

I understand completely. Although we had already made plans to move closer to the old folks and be more centrally located so it would be easier to take trips to visit the US, Irma just put the cap on it. I will be so happy to be gone.

I am glad my husband recently retired and we have the option of moving. We can always come back and visit, just not during hurricane season!

People move to FL without regard to the climate and the yearly potential for hurricane(s). Can't say we don't warn those people when they post here. Some have some sort of fantasy about FL being a utopia or something. They come here without ever visiting. Often come without a job.

West coast - quakes, fires, mudlides. Northwest - rain. Southwest - drought. North - sleet, snow, ice. Midwest - Tornadoes, lately there's also quakes, moderate to bad winters that include frigid cold, sleet & snow. (this spring during a trip to Oklahoma...it rained for a week. Then it was floods. South - we have it all. Including ice storms some winters & tornadoes in the spring. East - Frigid winters & hurricanes. Gulf coast - Extreme heat, humidity & hurricanes. Where to go to escape the weather???

I don't blame ya. Gonna get much hotter here over the next 30 years that no one could ever dream could happen. No way to live without A/C and the tropical weather will just get worse over time as the planet see's a rapid warm up.

San Diego. Except they've got other problems right now.
