I don't know how to figure that one out

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/...vid-cases.html
Incorrect. Florida now ranks 7th in deaths per capita. Texas (which may very soon surpass California in total deaths) is ranked 18th. California is 35th.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

I would not be surprised at all if it gets even worse as the Holidays approach and unvaccinated snowbirds make their way down South, enjoying basically ZERO COVID related restrictions/preventative measures.

As for hospitalizations being so low? Well, that's because so many elderly people were vaccinated. If not for them, it would be even worse.

It's actually very, very easy to figure out what happened: Florida's COVID strategy was an absolute failure. I'm sorry it took you nearly 20 months to realize this, but the good news is that the vaccine is free and readily available. Masks aren't free, but very inexpensive and they work to reduce transmission, so long as nearly everyone wears them in indoor settings.

Why are you trying to 'round' up? 7th place (and rising) is not 10th place...

It's OK to admit that you were wrong, you know...

If you look daily at Worldometers, as I and many others do, you'd have noticed that the graph for Florida's daily deaths has looked the same for months-ALWAYS showing that deaths are declining from a huge peak and approaching zero. To my knowledge, Florida is the only state that does this because they don't report daily deaths-- they backlog them and release them in batches. That's why Florida was behind for NY for a while and then suddenly it has several thousand deaths more than they did a few weeks ago.

I'm sorry you don't like the data set, but that's the one I've been using since the start of the pandemic.

Check out this website and go down to the county table. Then you see that FL now has 0 daily deaths:
https://usafacts.org/visualizations/.../state/florida

FL Covid hospitalizations also have decreased by 90% since mid August:

This is incorrect. Florida is still averaging about 1000 deaths a week. The numbers are vastly down, but they are not at zero yet.

flamadiddle, here are the number of Florida deaths reported in the last couple of months, they are not reflected in your graph:

8/27 - 336
8/29 - 574
9/1 - 314
9/3 - 415
9/7 - 647
9/8 - 1293
9/9 - 508
9/13 - 477
9/16 - 1554
9/19 - 1059
9/22 - 1207
9/26 - 939
9/29 - 939
10/3 - 608

I omitted the days that have 0-10 deaths reported. The statistics are sometimes "stealth" updated. What I mean by that: early in the evening about 6pm on 9/26 the numbers are updated to 10 deaths. All the media agencies take that number and report that in their totals. Then there is another update on the same day approx 10pm to 939 as shown above. These additional 929 deaths are never reported by those who scrape the numbers for their media reports. It's been happening for the last year that I have been manually keeping a spreadsheet. Now granted, my numbers come from WorldOmeters which can have reporting deficiencies themselves, but the number of "stealth" updates to me that I've seen over the past year makes me curious as to what is really going on. Is the state fudging numbers? Maybe, maybe not. We will never know.

You do realize you created this very thread whose the title is boasting about having the 2nd lowest case rate in the country, right? And yet you want to quibble about where FL lands in the top 10 deaths per capita?
